Print Publication

We have already seen, in Lesson 4, how to enter the printer settings.
In this lesson we look at how our publication is printed.
The quickest way is to use the “Print” button found in the “Standard toolbar”.
But this does not give us much control over the amount of data and the method of printing.

A more efficient way is to click on the “File” tab in the “Menu bar” and select “Print” from the drop-down menu.
This opens the “Print” dialog box:

1. At the top of the dialog box, you can select which printer you want to use, that is, if you have multiple printers installed on your computer.

2. We also have the “Properties …” tab which when clicked, gives the properties of the selected printer.

3. Under the “Properties …” tab we have the “Print to file” check box.
When we select this check box, the file will be printed on any printer. This box can be checked when the file is delivered to a third party, and you do not know which printer he or she has.

4. Below this we have the “Print Options” text box. The default setting is set to “One page per sheet” and it meets the requirements of this example. If you are printing on labels or business cards, a second option “Multiple copies per sheet” appears, which can be selected.

5. The “Paper” section seems quite clear.

6. The “Orientation” section also seems quite obvious.

7. The same thing can be said for the “Preview” section .

8. In the “Page Range” section, you determine which pages of your publication are to be printed.

  • The “All pages” option will print all pages of your publication.
  • The “Current Page” option will only print the current page of your publication.
  • The “Pages” text box is used to specify the pages, you want printed. For example:
  • If you only want the pages 2 and five to be printed, type 2,5 (separated by a comma).
  • If you want the pages from page 2 to page 5 to be printed, type 2-5 (separated by a minus sign).

9. In the next section you can determine the number of copies, and how they are sorted.
For example:
You can print page 1 five times, page 2 five times, followed by page 3,etc …
Or you can print page 1 once, page 2 once, followed by page 3, etc…
Once all pages are printed, the second set is printed, followed by the third set, and then the fourth and fifth and so on.

10. Finally we have “2-sided printing options.”
This option has three sub-options:

1.”Single-sided”: This option is selected if you want the printing to be done only on one side.
2.”Two-sided: This applies only if you have a printer that can print on both sides.
3.”Two-sided, filp short side”: Here all the odd pages will be printed first, and then the paper is turned upside down in the printer and the printing continues.

11. This option is interesting if you are not sure how to get the paper back into the printer when you chosen to rpint on both side of the paper.

The second tab, “Printer Properties”, displayed in this dialog box seems quite clear to me.

Click on the “Print” button when you’re done.
It is, perhaps, useful to first take a look at the print preview. You can save paper and ink, this way.

View “2-sided printing”

If we want to view the 2nd page, in a newsletter that consists of four pages, you also will have noticed that it is displayed along with page 3.
We have the ability to disable this feature.
Just click on the “View” tab in the “Menu bar” and select the “Duplicate Page” option.
You can now view pages 2 and 3 separately. This does not apply just to pages 2 and 3, but all pages that lie between the first and last pages of our publication.
To turn this option back on, repeat this procedure.

Awesome!
