Adding Text

In “PSP” we have three types of text that we can add: “Vector”, “Selection” and “Floating”.
“Selection”, we have already seen in a previous lesson.
“Floating”, is where the text will be placed in a grid layer and will therefore not be able to be changed later on. So use “Floating” text only if you are sure that you won’t want to modify it later.
We have the third type which is”Vector” Text.
This is the most versatile type of text because you can edit the text characters at any time.

To add text to your image, select the “Text” tool in the toolbar, select the type as “Vector” in the options bar and click on the picture.
This opens the “Text Entry” dialog.
For the format of the text we use the options in the option bars and we select a border color and fill color in the “Materials” palette.
I will not discuss all the options in the options bar unless they are of some use. If you want to change the formatting of text, you must select the text in the “Text Entry” box.
After applying the changed text or the layout to the photo, you can see how your text will look like in the picture.

Changing Text

We can use and format the vector text.
To do this first select the vector layer with the text in the palette, “Layers”.
Place the cursor over the text and when it changes to a letter A with square brackets [A], click the text.
This opens the “Text Entry” window again.
As mentioned above, for formatting or changing the text, first select it in this window.
By means of the blocks at the edges of the text frame, the dimensions can be changed.
If you wish to change the position of the text box, place the cursor in the center of the frame and when it turns into a four-headed arrow, drag it to the desired position.

Text on path

To place a “Vector” text on a path we need a path, namely a vector.
This path can be open such as a line, or closed, such as an oval or rectangle.
As long as it’s a vector object, “PSP” is satisfied.

In this example, I draw an oval vector object with the respective tool. It is along this oval that I want to align my text.
Then I select the “Text” tool and place the pointer at the edge of the oval. Once this changes to an A with an arc underneath the window then the “Text Entry” appears.
As soon as you start typing, the text appears in the picture. Also, from this text, you can always change the format by clicking on it, and thus the “Text Entry” box reopens.
To move the text around the path, place the cursor in the middle of the text box (2), and drag it to the desired position.
You can drag the text to any position you want, while it is around the path.
For example drag the text all the way up in the picture and then release the mouse repositioning it around the path.

Reversing the Path

I think that you won’t be able to place the text down or up around a vector shape.
To fix this perform the following steps:
Draw the circle, ellipse, line, or whatever shape you want, as long as it is a vector.
Select the shape and click “Objects” in the menu bar and select “Convert to path” in the drop-down menu.
Select the Pen tool in the toolbar, right-click the vector shape, and select the pop-up menu, “Edit” – “Reverse Path”.
In the options bar give the “Shift” key a positive number if you want the text to be placed inside the oval, and a negative number if you want the text to be placed outside the oval.
