Lesson 80: Update Pictures (3)

80/94 Lessons

Red Eye Removal

Red eyes, a common problem. But with Photoshop, it is a piece of cake to solve this problem. The tool can be found under the “Healing Brush” tool in the tool bar.I select the “Red Eye” tool and I click the pupil of the eye. And actually you do not even have to do this in the pupil, if you are already in the neighborhood, Photoshop knows what you want to achieve. I repeat it for the right eye.

When the pupil created is not dark enough for you, you can increase the amount of darkening in the options bar. If the pupil size is not big enough for you and there is still a red glow around the edge of the pupil, then you can change the “Pupil Size” option in the options bar.

The “Dodge” and “Sponge” tools

With the “Dodge” and “Sponge” tools, we can change the color and the color intensity.

We can find the “Dodge” tool along with the other tools “Burn” and “Sponge”, in the toolbar obviously.

The “Dodge” tool, makes the details of the picture brighter.
The “Burn” tool, makes the details of the picture darker.
And the “Sponge” tool changes the color intensity.

As an example, I have a picture of teeth that I found on the Internet.
Not the teeth, just the picture.

Ok, using the “Dodge” tool and “Sponge” tool, we will see how this man or woman’s teeth will look in your hands.
First we choose the “Dodge” tool in the tool bar.
In the options bar, we give the settings for

  • the diameter of the brush:
keep the diameter of the brush smaller than the teeth because we only want his / her teeth a little lighter, not the gums.
  • the hardness of the brush:
I posted this as 1% because I have no desire to draw rings of color in these teeth.
  • the box “Range” is on Midrange, this is good
You also have the choice “Shadows”, but this would take away the shadow colors in the mouth. And “High Lights” would take away the lighter colors. In this case, both of these are not desired.
  • The box “Exposure” currently stands at 50%, but this seems like a lot. This is because of the lighter colors of the teeth, the higher the percentage, the lighter the shade around the teeth. It must of course remain a bit, so in this case 30% will be sufficient.
  • And at the far right we have the airbrush tool.
This button works like an airbrush, ie if you hold down the button, color of the teeth gets whiter and whiter and whiter …..
Personally I do not want to do much, so I checked this button.

Once all settings are entered, click on the places you want to lighten. That is the teeth.
Result:

With the “Sponge” tool, we can give the teeth a more natural color by removing the saturation of white. In other words, we make the white teeth darken.
Now I hear you thinking, now we have white teeth, why should I make them darker?
Well this is much more natural, not everyone wants to be walking down the street with such a Pepsodent smile.

Click the sponge tool, we find this tool under the “Dodge”.
In the Options bar choose “Desaturate”, because we want to darken, not lighten.
The “Flow” is at 50%, this is good.
I do not want to use the airbrush, so it should not be checked.
I zoom in on the teeth to be able to edit it precisely, I will merely darken the teeth, not the gums.

Result:

Awesome!
