Features “Grow” and “similar”

The functions “Grow” and “similar”, which we find under the “Select” button in the menu bar are features that can expand on the already selected similar color.

How similar the color should be, depends on the value in the “Tolerance” box.

In other words, similar to the “Wand” tool, these functions “Grow” and “similar” also take the value of this field into account.

If you have selected a part of the picture (1), it does not matter with what tool, and click the “Grow”, then the selection is extended to all adjacent pixels (2) that satisfy the conditions.

If you choose the option “similar”, then the selection will be extended to all pixels in the image (3) which satisfy the conditions.

As I mentioned before, the conditions are set in the “Tolerance”.

Another tip.

If all pixels that you want to select are not selected, you can repeat both the functions several times.

Save Selection

When a time-consuming selection is made, or you have made a selection that you want to use later, you can save.

Just click the “Select” button in the menu bar and choose “Save Selection” in the drop-down menu.

This opens the dialog “Save Selection” (1) where you select a name, and click the OK button.

A second way is the “Save Selection as Channel” button (2) at the bottom of the “Channels” panel.

If you wish to use your saved selection later to add more parts, click the “Select” button again in the menu bar and choose “Save Selection” in the drop-down menu.

In the dialog that appears (3), choose the selection that is already stored in the “Channel” and select the option “Add to Channel”.

Load Selection

If you want to load a selection, we have two possibilities. One, you can reload the image that you have created, and two, you can load them into another photo.

To load a selection back in the same picture, click the “Select” button in the menu bar and choose “Load Selection” from the drop-down menu.

In the dialog that appears, choose the selection by clicking the downward pointing arrow next to “Channel” box and click the OK button.

If you want to load a selection from another photo you just do the same, the only requirement is that the picture into which you want to load the selection, has precisely the same dimensions as that of the picture in which the selection is made and stored.

Important!

When I talk about size, I’m talking about the size in pixels. Not in cm, mm, inches or whatever. It is PIXELS.

Awesome!
