Lesson 82: Puppet Warp (1)

82/94 Lessons

What is “Puppet Warp”

A new feature in CS5 is the “Puppet Warp”.
With this feature, we may move ot stretch specific areas of an image or deform the text.

First things first

Before we do anything we need to rotate the object to detatch from the background.
In this example I have a picture of a young lady on the beach and I selected this lady with her scarf.

Then we click the button Ctrl + J on our keyboards.
This makes the selected into a new layer.
I will get straight to giving a significant name to the different layers, so it is easier to explain what we do in any layer.
To give a layer a different name, double click the text in the name of the layer.
This will select the text. The only thing you need to do is to type the new name.

We continue.
Then we remove the girl that is still on the beach layer.
Hide the girl layer by clicking the eye icon (1).
Click the thumbnail on the layer of the girl (2). This will again make the selection of the girl.
We select the layer with the beach (3) and make the selection a bit larger.
Just click the “Select” button in the menu bar, choose “Modify” in the drop-down menu, and click “Expand”.

In the dialog box that appears, I extend the selection by 4 pixels, and click the OK button.
This will remove all borders around the selection in the selection record.

Then click the “Edit” button in the menu bar and select “Fill” in the drop-down menu.
In the “Use:”, choose “Content-Aware” and click the OK button.

This will fill the entire selection with similar pixels.
This, we have already seen in lesson 78.

Now we have separated the object from the background, in the next lesson we look at how we can get some movement.

Awesome!
