Lesson 16 : The Bridge (3)

16/94 Lessons

Your own Workspace

In this lesson I’ll show you how to save your own workspace. For those of you who do not know what a workspace is, it is the current size and position of panels and miniatures.

By default there are already some that are established by Photoshop.
To see all these, place the mouse pointer on the “Application Bar” and when it changes into a double arrow, click and drag it to the left (1).

A second way is the downward pointing arrow button on the right side of the “Application Bar”.
This opens a drop-down menu where you find the several preset workspaces (2).

When you’ve spent some time in the composition of a workspace, I can imagine that you want to save this for later use, without having to do all this again.

To create a private workspace, we always start from an existing workspace.

By clicking and dragging the tabs of the panes, you can change their position.

To show or hide the panes, click “Windows” in the menu bar and select the appropriate panels from the list.

To add a workspace, click the downward pointing arrow (1) and click the “New Workspace” (3).

Enter a name for the workspace, and click the “Save” button (4).

From now on your own workspace is added to the list (5).

Now that your workspace is added to the list (5), you can just select it, if you want to work in your own environment.

To remove this, I think you know what to do, right?

Keywords

We use Keywords to make it easy for ourselves to find or filter pictures on a certain topic.

When we open “Keywords” pane, we see that there are some standard keywords already added by Photoshop.

To add a keyword to one or multiple photos, select the photo (s) and click on the keyword in the “Keywords” panel on the right.

Select “New Keyword” or “New sub-keyword” from the drop-down menu (1) depending on what you want to do.

Then type the name of the keyword (2), and select the keyword (3).

This will be added to all your selected photos. If you want to grant multiple keywords to a photo, no problem, first select the photo (s), and then select the keyword in the panel.

You can do the same with the buttons in the bottom pane (4).

If you want to delete a keyword from a photo, select the photo and you remove the checkmark for the keyword in the panel.

Ratings

Another way to share our pictures is by awarding a “Rating”.

To give a rating to one or more photos, select the photo (s), click “Label” in the menu bar and choose the number of stars you wish to grant to your picture (s).

You know what you can do with the “Decrease Rating” and “Increase Rating” options.

A second way is to select the picture and assign the number of stars below the thumbnail (2).

TIP
If you wish to give ratings to a photo in full-screen, click the Spacebar on your keyboard. This opens the image in full screen.

Click the button 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 on your keyboard to provide a rating for the photo.

Click the arrow keys on your keyboard to navigate to the next or previous photo.

Click the Esc key on your keyboard to close the full screen size.
