Adding a SmartArt

Do you want a concept, or a plan or a sketch? You can insert any of these using a “SmartArt”.
With “SmartArts”, we can add various types of diagrams to our document.

To insert a “SmartArt”, select the “Insert” tab on the ribbon, and then click the “SmartArt” button.
This will open the “Choose a SmartArt Graphic” dialog box:

This dialog box is divided into three parts:
On the left side we have the different types of diagrams.
In the middle we have a list of different examples.

And, on the right side we have a description of the diagram that we have selected in the middle of the dialog.

If you have made a selection in the middle of the dialog box, click the OK button.
This places the SmartArt in your document at the place where your cursor is.

At the top, under “SmartArt Tools”, we find two contextual tabs, “Design” and “Format” (2).
These are visible only when the “SmartArt” in our document, is selected.
The “Smart Art styles” and “Change Color” options, are found in the “Design” contextual tab and they have the “Live Preview” option.
The same thing applies to the “WordArt Styles”, “Shape Fill”, “Shape Outline” and “Shape Effects” options, that are found under the “Format” contextual tab.

To change the text in the different boxes, you can simply click the box and begin typing.
A second way is by clicking on the arrow (2) on the left of the “SmartArt”.
This opens a text window (3).
Click the text and start typing.

To change the hierarchy of the boxes, select the box, and click the “Promote” or “Demote” (4) buttons, under the shortcut tab, “Design”, in the ribbon.

You can do this, both in the text window, as well as in the “SmartArt” object.

To add a box, select a box in the Text pane, and press the Enter key on your keyboard.
To delete a box, select the box in the “SmartArt”, and press the Delete key on your keyboard.
