Percentage of a total:

In this tip, I explain how the percentage is calculated.

In column B, I have the turnover per customer.
At the bottom of this column, I have the the total turnover.

In column C, I display the percentage of the total, per customer.

Select cell C2.
As always, we begin each formula with the “equals sign” (=).
We then select cell B2 and type the division delimiter (/). Select cell B11.
Press the F4 key on your keyboard, to make the reference of the cell an absolute cell reference. This is important when you want to copy the formula to the underlying cells.
The formula we have now typed is: = B2 / $ B $ 11.

Press the “Enter” key on your keyboard.
TIP: When the “Ctrl” key is pressed down while you click the “Enter” key, it will remain in the same cell so cell C2 is selected and you do not need to select it again.

The number format for this cell is the standard notation, so we have to change that.

Just click the “Percent Style” button in the “Ribbon (1).

Optionally, you can add one or more decimal places, by clicking the “Increase Decimal” (2) button.

Double-click the fill handle (A) and you’re done.
You can now see the percentage for each customer and this represents their share of the turnover.

Awesome!
