Customized Sorting:

Recently, I was asked by Hermine and Joseph if we can sort in any other way other than, from A to Z or high to low.
In this tip, I will explain how to do this to you.

In most cases, therefore, we sort from A to Z and vice versa.
But what do you do when you want to sort based on other criteria?
For example, the name of the Province needs to be sorted, not from A to Z or vice versa but, in the way that you choose.

For this, we first create a custom list.
In other words, we create a list which we want to sort.

In order to do this, place the cursor in the table, in any place and click the “Sort” button on the “Ribbon”.
FYI, the “Sort” button is found under the “Data” tab.

This opens the “Sort” dialog box.
In the “Order” section, select “Custom List” .

In the “Custom List” text box, enter the data list that you wish to sort.
We separate the different data entries by a comma followed by a space.
Click the “Add” button and click the OK button.
The list which we wish to sort, is now added and ready for use.

Back in the Excel document, we click the “Sort” button again, in the “Ribbon”.
And, in the “Sort” dialog box, we select the “Province” column as the ordered “Custom List”.

As you would have noticed the list that you created earlier is added to the list of “Custom Lists”.
Select this and click the OK button.

Click the OK button again to close the “Sort” dialog box.

Our data is now sorted based on the criteria specified by you.
First, we have East Flanders, Antwerp, Limburg followed by West Flanders.
