Sorting horizontally:

Last week, I was asked by Albert whether we can sort columns.
Yes you can. This is very easy, in fact.
In this tip, I will explain how to do this.

In this example, with the exception of cell A1, I have divided the names of some employees into columns.
These employee names are arranged, alphabetically.

The first thing we do is, to select the entire area.
So, the column titles with the underlying cells are selected.
Column A is not selected because it can not be ranked. This must be omitted.
Then click the “Sort” button, which is found under the “Data” tab.

In the “Sort” dialog box, click the “Options” button.

In the “Sort Options” dialog box, select the “From left to right sort” check box and click the OK button.

Return to the “Sort” dialog box, click the arrow pointing downwards, next to the “Sort by” box and select the row you want to sort.
As you would have noticed, you will see the drop-down menu of field names but, the row numbers are absent.
Select the row number you wish to sort.
In our case, this is Row 1.
Possibly, you can still change the sort order from Z to A.
Click the OK button.

And Voila!
Our employee names are now arranged alphabetically, even though they are in columns.
