Add / Change Gradient (2)

In the “Gradient Editor”, the first thing we do is give a name to the gradient (A). This is so that it is always easy to find later.

Let us first see what we get to see.
Each gradient consists of at least one segment (B), and each segment consists of a “color of the left-hand end point” (1), a “color of the right-hand end point” (2) and a “handle” (3).

Change the position of the handle by clicking and dragging it, and then edit the colors in the gradient between the left endpoint and right endpoint.
For example, drag it to the right (1), and the color will be set as the left endpoint surpass, drag it to the left (2) the color will be set as the right endpoint surpass.

For colors in the left or the right end point, right click the segment (this is the blue bar) and select “Color of the left endpoint” or “Color of the right endpoint” in the pop-up menu.

In the pane that appears, select a color, and click the OK button.
For the left end, I select red and for the right, black.
Then we have this.

I want a gradient from red to black and back to red, so I add a segment.
I then right click above the segment and select “Replicate Segment” in the pop-up menu.

In the dialog that appears, to specify the number of times the segment is to replicated, move the slider to the right.

When your ready, click the “Replicate” button.

Then we have this:
Two color segments (A and B), each from red to black.
Both segments are selected, since they both are in blue.

In this case, if you wish to make the gradient between the two segments more fluent, we need the gradient setting of the second segment (B).
Click on the second segment so that only this segment is in blue (1).
Then right click the segment, and select “Segment mirroring” in the pop-up menu.

Our newly created gradient now flows neatly from red to black, and back to red

For clarity’s sake, you can add as many segments you want.

Here’s a few more tips.

To facilitate the smooth transition between the colors from one segment to the next segment, make the color of the right-hand end point in the first segment equal to the left-hand end point of the new segment.

To set the left or the right endpoint you must select the foreground or background colors, “Left Color Type” or “Right Color Type” in the pop-up menu (A) in the segment, right click, and select “Foreground Color” or “Background Color” in the submenu (B).

If you want it to be transparent, then I think you know what you should select.

To modify a gradient you select the gradient, and click the “Edit Gradient” button at the bottom of the “Gradients” dialog .

This opens the “Color Editor” dialog again, where you can change colors and the segments in exactly the same way you create a new gradient.

Gradient removal

To remove a gradient click and drag it to the trash icon at the bottom of the “Gradients” dialog box.

Awesome!
