Lesson 28: Illustrations and Clip Art

Inserting Illustrations (Clip Art)

For the insertion of “Illustrations” also, we have two options.

One way is to click the “Illustration-icon” in the “Placeholder box”.
A second way is by clicking the “Insert” tab in the “Ribbon” and clicking on the “Illustration” button.

In both cases, this opens the “Clip Art” task pane on the right of the application window.

The upper part of the “Clip Art” task pane allows us to search for a “Clip Art” with a specific theme.

In the second part, we determine where “PowerPoint” should look.
“All collections” is the default option.

And in the third box, you determine the media type. Default setting is set to “All media types”. Click the downward pointing arrow next to this box and uncheck all boxes except for the “Illustrations” text.
Since I want to insert a “ClipArt” in this lesson, the rest do not interest me.

When all these are set, click the “Go” button.

All results are shown in the “Picture Window”.
To insert a “Clip Art” from the “Picture window” in to the slide, double-click it.
A second way is to move the mouse pointer over the “Clip Art” till you see an arrow. When you click it, it a drop-down menu opens, where you select the “Insert” option.

When you’ve selected one of these “Clip Arts”, the “Clip Art” is seen on the slide.

Immediately, you can see that it is selected in our slide and the “Format” contextual tab is added to the “Ribbon” .

Adjusting a “Clip Art”:
When we have inserted a picture in our slides, we can change it.
Just right-click on the image and select “Edit Picture” from the drop-down menu.
“PowerPoint” will ask if you want to convert this image to a drawing object.
When the different parts need to be edited separately in the “Clip Art”, you must click “Yes”.
Please note, if you do this, you no longer have the formatting capabilities of the image. So the previously used format of the image will be lost.
If you had added a shadow to your image, it will disappear.

Instead we get to see the “Drawing Tools” contextual tab.
The advantage of this is that we are able to edit each part of the image separately .

A Transparent Clip Art:
An advantage of a “Clip Art” is that we can have a transparent background for it.
First select the above “Clip Art” in the slide.
Click the “Format” tab and then click the “Other colors” button.
At the bottom of the drop-down menu, we have the “Set Transparent Color” option.
When we click on it and then click a color in our “Clip Art”, this color is becomes transparent.

You can make only one color in your “Clip Art”, transparent.
If you repeat the above steps and you click a color in the “Clip Art” then, the first color you’ve made transparent, becomes visible again.

For the “Clip Art”, the layout capabilities are tremendous and it is best that you try all these options atleast once.

Awesome!
