Lesson 38: Animation (cont 3…)

Animating “Charts”

When we use a “Chart” in our presentation, we can also specify animation effects for this.

To do this, first select the “Chart” in the slide.

Click the “Custom Animation” button in the “Animation” tab in the “Ribbon”.
This opens the “Custom Animation” pane.
Click the “Add Effect” button and select one of the options., Eg “Entrance” and choose an effect.

Select the effect in the pane and click the downward pointing arrow.
Select “Effect Options” from the drop-down menu.

In the dialog box that appears, select the “Chart Animation” tab.

Click the downward pointing arrow next to the “Group Chart” box.
This opens a drop-down menu with different options.
By default, the “As one object” option is selected , but you can change it to “Per Series”, “By category”, etc.
And you can check the “Start animation by drawing the Chart background” check box.
Make your choice and click OK.
As indicated in the list, even in a “Chart”, the different effects are displayed in the pane.

Transitioning between slides

We can also provide transition between two slides as entertainment.
To provide a transition from an animation, select the “Animation” tab in the “Ribbon”.

We can apply this animation between all transitions of slides, or just a single transition.
By clicking on the arrow on right of the gallery with a variety of transitions, you can navigate between the different types.
Clicking the bottom arrow opens a menu of all transitions.
The different transitions also have the “Live Preview” option.

To apply a transition, click on it in the gallery.
To adjust the speed of the transition, click the downward pointing arrow next to the “Transition Speed” box. This opens a drop-down menu with 3 different speeds, from which you can make a choice.
To apply the same transition to all slides, click the “Apply to all” button.
To preview the added animation, click the “Preview” button to the left of the “Animation” tab.

Time setting for a transition

By default, the transition between slides is set to “On Click”.
This can be changed to “Automatically after” by selecting this checkbox and specifying the time in the box or by clicking the up arrow.

This can be done for each individual slide transition, or for all transitions.
If you want to set this up for all transitions, click the “Apply to all” button.

You have the option of selecting both transition types, “On Click”, and “Automatically after”.
This transition can be performed even if the specified time delay isn’t completed, if you click the mouse.

If you have set a time delay between transitions, it will be displayed in the “Slide Sorter”view.

“RehearseTimings”

In the previous part of this lesson, we learned how to set a time for the different slides.
Usually there will be different times for different slides.
The question is how much time is to be specified for each slide.
“PowerPoint” allows us to determine a “live” time setting.
We do this with the “Use Rehearse Timings” option.
With this option, we can include different timings, that are necessary for the various slides, so that they will be played back automatically when we show the presentation to an audience.

Just click the “Rehearse Timings” button in the “Ribbon”, under the “Slideshow” tab.

This opens your presentation in the “Slide Show” mode and displays the “Rehearsal” toolbar in the left corner.

Please note, immediately after the “Use Rehearsed Timings” check box is selected, the time is recorded for that particular slide.
Click the “Pause” (2) button to pause the recording.
Click the “Pause” (2) button again, to start the recording .
To move to the next slide, click the “Next” button (1).
To set the times between the different animations in a slide, the “Start” box in the “Custom Animation” pane, is set to “On Click”.

This allows you to set a time for each animation in it. This is also for every bullet in a bulleted list.
To schedule a time for a slide, specify the time in the time period box (3) and press the tab key on your keyboard.

To start, click the “Repeat” button which sets the duration of the slide back to zero.
After the last slide, a window appears, asking whether you want to save the new timings or not.
Click the “Yes” button if you wish to do so.

If you wish to temporarily turn off the various time settings, un-check the box for the “Use reherase timings” option in the “Ribbon”.
If you want to use these time settings, select this check box again.

The “Use rehearsed timing” option is used to record the duration of each slide. The recorded times can then be used to automatically show the slides as a presentation, to a real audience.
