Lesson 35: Animation

“Standard “Animation”

“Animation” can be added to any kind of information added to “PowerPoint”.
The “Animation” command can be found under the “Animation” tab in the “Ribbon”.

If you want to animate an object, first select an object on the slide.
Select the “Animation” tab in the “Ribbon” and click the downward pointing arrow next to the “Animation” box
When your mouse pointer moves over one of the four preset animations in the drop-down menu , a “Live Preview” is displayed in your slide.

To add an “Animation” to your object, select it from the drop-down list.

If you do the same for a text slide that has several paragraphs, for example, a numbered list, you have the options “By first level paragraph” and “All at once” added to every animation in the drop down menu.

Again, you will have a “Live Preview”.

Each “Animation” in the slide is displayed in the order it was added.
To preview all embedded “Animations” in your slide, click the “Preview” button in the “Animation” tab in the “Ribbon”.

A second way to add the “animations” in your slide is, by clicking the left button below the slide, in the “Slide Sorter” view.

“Custom Animation”

Instead of chosing a “Standard Animation”, we also have the option to add a “Custom animation” on a slide.
Select the “Animation” tab in the “Ribbon” and click the “Custom Animation” button.
This opens the “Custom Animation” pane on the right side of the application window:

Each animation, whether it’s a default animation, or a “Custom animation”, is included in the “Custom Animation” panel.
Each “Animation” in our slide, which has the “OnClick” action, is provided with a number, which determines the order of appearance.
To change the order of the different “Animations”, first select it in the animation pane, or select the object on the slide and click the downward-or upward pointing arrow at the bottom of the pane.

If you have selected an “Animation” to be done per paragraph, then double click the downward pointing arrow in the pane.

Here also, you can change the order, by selecting it and clicking on the “Up” and “Down” arrows.

To return, click the double-click the arrow pointing upwards.
To close the pane, click the X in the upper right corner.

We will discuss “Custom animations” in greater detail in the following lessons.
