Office 2007 - PowerPoint

Lesson 30: Pictures (cont…)

“Picture Styles”

“Picture Styles” are new in “PowerPoint” 2007 and we can find them in the “Format” contextual tab in the “Ribbon”.

You can navigate between the different styles by clicking on the different style buttons on the right.
Again, we have the “Live Preview” option.
In other words, we do not have to click the style to see it, just move the mouse pointer over the style and it will display an example in the slide.
In order to apply the style, you have to click it.

“Picture Shapes”

In the previous part I talked about “Picture styles”. “Picture Styles” are a combination of different formatting options. “Picture Shapes” is one of them.
By default, the image appears as a rectangle.
This can be changed with the help of the “Picture Shape” button in the “Ribbon” and you can select a shape from the drop-down menu.
“Picture Border”, and “Picture Effects”.
Click the button for these options in the “Ribbon” and select the required option from the drop-down menu.

The same goes for the “Brightness”, “Contrast” and “Other colors” options.
The different possibilities and combinations are huge, so I suggest if you have a lot of time, try them out.

“Compressing Pictures”

The only thing I can tell you is that when you’ve inserted a photo which is large in size (in kb), you can compress it.
This will make the creation of your presentation easier.
In order to solve this problem, click the “Compress Pictures” button in the “Ribbon”.
When you click this button, it opens a “Compress Pictures” dialog box.

Here you have the option of applying the compression to all images in your presentation or only the selected image.

Check this box when you select this last option.
And click the OK button.

By clicking on the “Options” button, we can see different “Compression options”, depending on the way we want to divide our presentation.
You can select “Print”, which will result in the largest size.
You can also select “Screen”, which is a fine choice if you want to upload your image to the Internet .
And you can choose E-mail, resulting in the smallest size, which in turn is excellent for sending the image as an attachment to an e-mail.

The top two options in the dialog box are pretty apparent.

Awesome!
