Lesson 31: Photo Album

Inserting a “Photo album”

In “PowerPoint”, we have the option of inserting a “Photo album”.
This is a handy feature when we want to include only photos in our presentation, possibly with a caption.
Select the “Insert” tab in the “Ribbon” and click the “Photo Album” button.
The “Photo album” button consists of two parts.
Clicking on the upper part will always create a new album.
Clicking on the lower part will open a drop-down menu, in which we can select a new album, or edit an existing album.

In this example I’m creating a new album. So, I click on the upper part of the button.
This opens the “Photo Album” dialog box:

To add one or more photos to your album, click the “File / Disk …” button at the top left of the dialog box.
This opens the “Insert New Pictures” dialog box where, you navigate to the folder where your photos are stored.
Select the photo (s) you want to insert and click the “Insert” button.
This places all the selected photos in the “Pictures in album” list.

What else do we have in this dialog box?
Under the “File / Disk …” we have the “New text box” button.
When we click on it, this will add a blank slide with a text box, under the selected photo in the “Pictures in album:” section.
So I click this button as everything is in the image above, and then I inserted the blank slide with the text, between the photos “SN07” and “image_01”.

Below this is the “Picture Options” section.
The first option is, “Captions below ALL Pictures.”
This can only be checked if we have made a selection in the “Picture Layout”.
The second option in this section is, “All Pictures black and white”.
When this is checked, all our photos are shown in black and white.

Below that, we have the “Album layout” section.
Here, we must make a choice about the number of photos per slide and whether we want this slide with a title or not.
You can select these options from the drop-down menu when you click the down pointing arrow.
If you have you made a choice, then you have the option select the “Caption below ALL Pictures” box.
Please note, a caption is not the same as a title.
You have only one title per slide, but you can have multiple captions, the latter depends on the number of photos in a slide.
By default, the name of the previously selected photo is shown but, you can customize it once they are inserted into the slides.

Below this, we have the “Frame Shape” option.
Click the downward pointing arrow and make your choice.
Square corners, rounded corners… it doesn’t matter.

In the next text box, “Theme”, you can select a theme by clicking the “Browse” button.
This opens the “Choose theme” dialog box where you can create a self made theme or choose from “Powerpoint Themes”.

What else do we have?
We have a number of buttons, below the “Pictures in album:” section.
I will quickly explain them from left to right.
First we have the “Up” and “Down” arrows, with which we can change the order of the picture which is selected in the “Pictures in album:”.

We also have the “Delete” button.
If you have a photo that you want to remove from the album, first select it in the “Pictures in album:” and then click on this button.

We also find the “Rotate Image” buttons, both of which seem quite clear to me.

We also have the “Contrast” and the “Brightness” buttons.
I think, all these need no further explanation.

Click the “Create” button when all your settings are complete.
The only thing you have to do is, when you’ve selected the “Caption below ALL Pictures” and “Picture with title” options, they have to be aligned.

Awesome!
