Office 2007 - PowerPoint

Lesson 51 : Presentation … (1)

Publishing on the Internet

To publish a presentation on the Internet, click the “Office” button at the top left of the application window, click “Save as …” and select “PowerPoint presentation”.
This opens the “Save As” dialog box.
At the bottom of this dialog box, click the downwards pointing arrow in the box next to “Save As” and select “Web page (*. Htm, *.html )”.

At the bottom of the dialog box, a “Change Title” button will now be displayed.
Click this button and enter an appropriate name for the title of your webpage.
For those who do not know why this title should be given, it is so that it is displayed in the browser window.
In the “Set page title” dialog box, give a title for your web page and click the OK button.

Clicking on the “Publish” button opens a dialog box where we can set some more options.

At the top, we can choose whether we want to publish the entire presentation or only a few slides. When you select the second option, you specify the the slides that you want to publish in the appropriate boxes.  If you have made custom shows, you can also select that in the third text box.

We also have the “Display Speaker Notes” check box. By default, this is unchecked. Uncheck this box if you do not wish for the notes to be published.

In the “Browser Support” section, you can enter the type of browser which should be able to support this presentation.
Since most of us have a fast Internet connection, the first option is a good one.

In the “Publish a copy as” section, you see that the page title just entered, is already displayed.  Select the “Open published web page in browser” check box when you want to view a preview automatically, after clicking the “Publish” button.

Clicking on the “Web Options” opens the “Web Options” dialog box having six tabs.

Again, you can select several options.

In the “General” tab, you have the “Add slide navigation controls for” option. When this is checked, a navigation panel link appears in the Web browser, which can be used to navigate between slides. In this case, the navigation buttons are displayed at the bottom of the web page.

The second option seems clear.

And the third option, when checked, adjusts the size of the images and the size of your browser window.

In the “Browsers” tab, you can , if you wish, change the setting for “Browser support”, which you had selected in the previous dialog box.

In the “Files” tab, you will see that all files are placed in a folder, by default. And this is a good thing when you do not know too much about websites. It is, indeed, this folder you must upload to the server.

In the “Pictures” tab, you can specify the screen size for the target monitor.
You also have the “Encryption” and “Fonts” tabs, which are of little use.
When you have entered all the settings, click the OK button.
Click the “Publish” button in the previous dialog box.
All the files you need are now in a folder on your computer.
Where this folder is, depends on what you entered in the first dialog box, i.e, “Save As”.
Upload the htm file and the entire folder to the server.
