Office 2007 - PowerPoint

Lesson 39 : “Hyperlinks”

Adding, modifying or deleting “Hyperlinks”

When we enter an Internet address or an email address in a text box, “PowerPoint” will automatically convert it to a link.

But, we can also add a “Hyperlink” to a ‘normal’ text.
For this, select the word or words.
Click the “Insert” tab and click “Hyperlink” button.
This opens the “Insert” dialog box.

As you can see, in the dialog box, we do not really need a “Hyperlink” to a Web address, but we can also refer to a file on our computer, or to another slide in the presentation.

To insert a “Hyperlink” to a webpage or file on your computer, click the “Existing File or Web Page” button.
Depending on where you want to create a “Hyperlink”, enter the Internet address in the “Address:” box or navigate to the file to which you want the link.

If you wish to add a “Hyperlink” to another slide, click the “Place in this document” button.
Select the slide in the left pane and click OK.

If you want the “Hyperlink” to a “PowerPoint” file that is currently non-existent, click the “Create New Document” button.
Enter a name for the new document in the dialog box, and an optional location on your computer where it is to be saved.
You can also specify whether you want to edit the file at that point, or later.
Click OK.

If you wish to add a “Hyperlink” to an e-mail address, select the “Email Address” in the dialog box.
In the dialog box, enter the “E-Mail address”, and the “Subject” of the email.
The text “mailto:”, is automatically added by “PowerPoint”, before the e-mail address.
Click OK, when you’re done.

For whichever “Hyperlink” you choose, in all cases, you can click the “Display Information” button to create a customized display text, when we move the mouse over the link.
You can enter the text in the dialog box that appears, but, I think you would’ve found that out, yourself,.

You can also add a “Hyperlink” to any other type of object other than text. To do this, you select the object and perform the same operations.

To changed a created “Hyperlink”, select the “Hyperlink” in your slide and click the “Hyperlink” button in the “Ribbon”. This opens the dialog box again, where you can make changes.

To remove a “Hyperlink”, select the “Hyperlink” in your slide and click the “Hyperlink” button in the “Ribbon”. In the dialog box, click the “Remove Link” button.
