Freeze rows and columns

In Excel we have the ability to freeze rows or columns.

What do I mean by “Freeze”?

When you input a very long list, and you scroll down, you can not see the titles in the columns anymore.
It is not a problem when all the data in the columns are quite clear.
Eg Name – Address – Postal Code and City.
But what if the data in each column is not so clear.
One solution is to freeze the rows with the titles.

When you freeze rows or columns with the title, and you can scroll as much as you want, the titles will remain in place.

Select the “View” tab in the Ribbon, and click “Freeze Panes”.

In the drop-down menu that appears, we have three possibilities:

  1. “Freeze Panes”:
To keep rows and columns visible while the rest of the worksheet scrolls down.
  2. “Freeze Top row” :
To freeze the top row of your worksheet.
  3. “Freeze First column”:
To freeze the first column, column A in your worksheet.

Click on your choice.

You see a black line in your worksheet which indicates that the columns or rows are locked.

To undo the freezing, click again on “Freeze panes” and choose “Unfreeze Panes”.

Key Tips

If you prefer to use your keyboard rather than mouse to execute a certain command, click the Alt key on your keyboard to see these keytips.

For every command that is currently available a Key Tip is shown.

If you want to use the key tips of the underlying commands, then click the letter of the tab that is currently active.
For example. I had the key tips displayed by pressing the Alt key on my keyboard.
At that time, the active tab “Hme” in the “Ribbon” is selected. If I wish to see the underlying key tips for Bold and Italic, then I press the letter H on my keyboard.

Then I get to see all the key tips for the commands under the “Home” tab:

An example:

Type Swotster.com in your worksheet.

If you want to change this text to bold without using your mouse click the Alt key, followed by the H key and followed by the 1 key on your keyboard.
If you want to also underline this text then click Alt – H- 3-U
