Lesson 24: Tables (cont…)

24/83 Lessons

AutoFilter

When we create a table, AutoFilter is automatically added.
But we can also add this command in a cell by first selecting the cell range, and then clicking the “Sort and Filter” button in the “Ribbon” and selecting “Filter”.

This gives us a downward pointing arrow next to each column header.

Open a menu and filter data in this column.

For example, when we click the arrow beside the column title “Region”, all mentioned regions in this column are listed.

By default, there is nothing filtered, so all regions are checked.

If you wish that only the representatives from eg. the Antwerpen regio to be selected, please click the box next to “Select All” and check the box next to Anwerpen.

This filters our data, and only shows our representatives from Anwerpen.
We can also filter by multiple columns.
For example, in the image below, City and Customer columns are filtered.
You can see that the arrow-icon is turned to a filter-icon.

To remove the filter, click the “Sort and Filter” button again in the “Ribbon”, and select “Filter”.
You can only filter by columns, not rows.

Creating a custom table

To create a new custom table we first click the button “Format as Table” in the “Ribbon”.

At the bottom of the window with the different formatting tables, we find the “New Table Style” button.

When we click it, it opens the “New Table Quick Style” dialog.
At the top of the dialog we give the name to the new table style.
Under the field  “Name” we find a list of all “Table elements”.

Select the element, and click the button “Format”.

This opens the “Format Cells” dialog box.

We have three tabs: “Font”,”Color”, and “Fill”.
Thus we can change the “Font style” and “Color” in the “Font” tab.

We can use “Size” to change the size of the text.
In the second tab “Border” and the third tab “Fill”, we have other options.
The “Table elements” for which a format is entered, are shown in bold in the “New table Quick Style” dialog.

Click OK when all settings are entered, and click OK again
Your table style is added to the different styles.

Delete a custom table

To delete a custom table from the list, right click the style and choose “Delete”.

Change style of a custom table

To change the style of a custom table, right click it and select “Modify”.
This opens the “Modify Table Quick style” dialog where we can modify.
