Add comments

There are different ways to add a comment to a cell.
Whatever way you chosse, first select the cell where we want to add the comment.

So first, select the cell.
Click the “Review” tab in the “Ribbon”.
and click on the “New Comment” button.

A second way is to right click the cell, and select “Insert Comment” from the drop-down menu.

And a third way is to select the cell and click Shift F2 key on your keyboard

Type your comment, and select another cell when you’re done.

A note is always displayed with the usernameon the top.

If you want to change this, click the “Office” button, and select “Excel Options”. In the “Excel Options”, choose the “Popular” tab. At the bottom of this tab you will find the field “Username”.

Change this to whatever you want, and click OK.

Read comments

When a comment is added to a cell, it has a red triangle in the upper right corner.
If you place your mouse pointer over the cell, the comment is displayed.

Show and Hide Comments

By moving the mouse pointer over the cell we can read the comment.

A second way is to select the cell,
and click on the “Show / Hide Comment” button or “Show All Comments” under the “Review” tab in the Ribbon

If you want to hide all the comments, click again on the “Show All Comments”

 

If you want to move the comment, select the comment, click and drag with the edge. This will be changed to dashes and you can place it where you want it.

Changing comments

If you want to change the text in a note, select the cell, and click “Edit Note” button in the “Ribbon”, under the “Review” tab.
The cursor will be placed in the comment window.
When you are done with your changes, select any other cell in your workbook.

A second way is right-click on the cell and select “Edit Note” from the drop-down menu.

Formatting Comments

To format a comment, select the comment..
We can use the formatting options like font, bold, alignment from the “Home” tab of the “Ribbon”.
Or click the “Format” in the “Home” tab in the “Ribbon”.
Choose “Format Comment”.
In the dialog that appears, you have several formatting options.

Deleting comments

To delete a comment from a cell, first select the cell, and click the “Delete” button in the
“Review” tab of the “Ribbon”.

A second way is to right click the cell, and select “Delete Comment” from the drop-down menu
