Add Trendline

A trendline is a straight line connecting a number of salient points in a chart.
A trend line can be added almost in every chart.
For example:
Our company wants to know which of the products they want to keep, and which of the products they want to remove from our catalog, based on last year sales.
For this we can add a trendline.
First select the chart.
Click the button “Trendline” in the “Layout” tab from the “Chart Tools”.

This opens a menu with six options.

  1. “None”
  2. “Linear trendline”
  3. “Exponential trendline”
  4. “Trendline for linear prediction”
  5. “Moving average with two periods”
  6. “More options … “

The “Linear trend line” is the most used, for this we have two options.
The “Linear trend line”, and the “Trendline for linear prediction”.
For this example, I take the first, the Linear trendline.
If no data set was selected in the chart, a dialog box will appear.
Choose the item you want to apply the trendline to, and click OK.

The number of trend lines and trend types in a chart are unlimited.
Choose the option “None” if you want to remove the trend lines.

Photo as background

Excel allows us to us a photo or pattern as background in our chart.
To do this, first select the chart area that you want to format.
Choose the “Layout” tab from the “Chart Tools”.
And click the far left of the “Ribbon” on “Format Selection”.
This opens the “Format Chart Area” dialog box.
In the left part choose “Fill”.
And on the right, choose “Picture or texture fill”.
Click “File” button to insert a picture.
Select the file and click the “Insert” button.

This can be done in any area of your chart.
Don’t go to crazy, especially not as in the example above.
If you want a transparent background, choose “No Fill” in the dialog.
