Type of chart

We can change the type of graph at any time.
To do this, click the “Change Chart Type” button in the “Design” tab of the “Chart Tools”.

This opens the “Change Chart Type” dialog, which is divided into two parts.

In the left part we find the different categories and in the right we find different styles.
Select the type of chart and click OK.
If you do not want to change the chart type, click the “Undo” button in the “Quick Access” toolbar.
Click the “Change Chart Type” button again and make another choice.
There are different types of charts and you can choose the one that best represents your data.

Switch Rows with columns

In “Excel 2007”, we can easily flip the rows and the columns.

To do this we click the “Switch Row / Column” button in the “Design” tab in the “Chart Tools”.

Move Chart to a new worksheet

By default, a chart is placed in the same “Worksheet” as an object with the selected data.
We can move to a new “Worksheet” by clicking on the “Move Chart” button in the “Design” tab in the “Chart Tools”.

This opens a dialog where we choose “New Worksheet”. We give the worksheet a name, and click OK.
This places the chart in its own worksheet.
To move the chart to the original worksheet, choose the worksheet by clicking the downward pointing arrow and select “Object in”

To move a chart as an object in a worksheet, move the mouse pointer over the edge of the graph, when it changes into a four-arrow, click and drag it to the desired position.
To set the dimensions of the chart, click and drag the blocks at the edges or corners of the chart.

Or, if you want it to be little more accurate, choose the “Layout” tab in the “Chart Tools”.

Adding Chart Title

To add a chart title we click the “Chart Title” in the “Layout” tab in the “Chart Tools”.
This opens a drop-down menu where we have three possibilities:
“None”: the default option, and it does not display any tittle.
“Centered Overlay title” adds a title, without changing the size of the graph.
“Above Chart”: insert the title above the chart but changes the size of the graph.
By clicking on the “More title Options” at the bottom, we can change a lot of settings for the layout of our title. There are too many options to discuss.

To change the text of the title, double click it, and type the title.
To confirm the new text, click outside the title.

Add Axis Title

To add an axis title we click the “Axis tittle” in the “Layout” tab in the “Chart Tools”.
Here we have the choice of “Primary horizontal axis title”, and “Primary Vertical axis title “.
Choosing Horizontal axis gives us two options.
“None” or “Title below axis”. Both seem to be clear.

Choosing Vertical axis gives us four options.
“None”, “Rotated Title”, “Vertical Title” and ‘Horizontal title”.
These do not need explanation.

In both cases, Horizontal axis and Vertical axis, we double-click the text to change it.
Again we click outside the title to confirm.
Here we find the “More tittle Options” button where we can change a lot of settings for the layout of our title.
