53/83 Lessons

“PivotTable Styles”

As mentioned earlier, we find “Pivot table styles” in the “Design” tab on the right of the “Ribbon” in “PivotTable Tools”.
We have different styles to format the “PivotTable”.
You can scroll through this menu, by clicking the up and down arrows, or you can completely open the menu by clicking the “More” button at the bottom.

When you click the “More …” button, the style menu will open, you see that the various preformatted styles are divided into three groups: Light, Medium and Dark.

Use the scroll bar on the right side to scroll through the menu.
When the mouse pointer moves over a style, you see a Live Preview of this in the PivotTable.

To select a style, click on this style.
To remove a style from your PivotTable, click the “Clear” button at the bottom of the Style menu.

To make your own style click the “New style for PivotTables …” button, at the bottom of the style menu.

This opens the dialog box:
“New PivotTable Quickstyle”.

You use the various “Table elements” to determine your style.
Each table element fits into a range of the “PivotTable”. This may be for the entire table, but it can also be, for example, for the Total.

To determine format of an element, select the element in the list, and click the “Format”.
This will open the “Format Cells” dialog box with three tabs, “Font”, “Border”, and “Fill”.
You can use the three tabs to enter your layout for the selected element.

Click the OK button when you’re done.
In the table elements list you can see the formatted element in bold.
What do we have in this dialog box?
At the top we find the “Name box”, give an appropriate name in this.
On the right we can see the preview of the formatted element.

We have the “Clear” button that we can use to delete a layout of a table element.
First select the table element, and then click the “Clear” button. This removes the formatting for that element.
And at the bottom we have a box that we can check if we want to apply this style as a default on all other pivot tables that we create in the same workbook.

Click the OK button when you are done.
Your style is now added to the top menu with different styles in a new “Custom”group.

If you wish to edit or delete, right click in the style menu, and select “Modify” or “Delete” depending on what you want to do.

Awesome!
