Lesson 18: Formatting Cells (cont 2…)

18/83 Lessons

Text rotation
Sometimes the tittle of the text is too long and it does not fit in the cell.

In Excel we have the ability to rotate the text.
Click the “Orientation”.
In the drop-down menu that appears, we have several options.

The first five seems to be logical. The sixth option “Format Cell Alignment”, gives the same dialog box as in previous versions of Excel.

Cell borders

When we click the “Borders” we get a whole list of different options.

All options seem to be clear.
The only thing I must tell you here is to choose the optimum color and border style for edges of your cells or cell ranges.

“Format Cells” dialog box
We still have the opportunity to work with the “Format Cells” dialog box.
To do this, we click on any of the downward pointing arrows right next to the group names.

This opens the dialog box with the corresponding group tab selected.
The last tab, “Protection” is set to “Locked”.
You also have the option to hide cells.
This option is only usefull when the entire “Workbook” is protected. We will see more on this in the later lessons.

Once all options in the dialog box are selected, click OK to confirm and return to the “Worksheet”.

Paste Format
We use the button “Format copy/paste” to copy the text format and background settings.

The button “Format copy/paste” is found under the “Home” tab in the “Ribbon”.

First select the cell that you want to copy the format.

Your mouse pointer changes to a plus sign with a brush.
And click and drag over the cell (s) where you want to apply this formatting.

Awesome!
