Lesson 44: Charts (cont 3…)

44/83 Lessons

Adding data to a chart

We can add data to a chart in different ways.
I’ll show you two ways to do this.
Suppose the month of April has been added to our table, and now we also want to include this in our chart.

First select the range of April in the table (E3: E9).
Click Ctrl C on your keyboard (this copies the Range)
Select the chart.
And then click Ctrl V on your keyboard.
The column with the figures of April are now added to our chart.

A second way is to select the chart, a blue border around the range in the table will appear, click and drag the blue corners till the correct columns are selected.
The first way can also be used when the chart is in its own worksheet.

Remove Data from chart

Removing data from a chart is as easy as removing the entire chart.

Select the range, and click the Delete button on your keyboard.

How do you select a series
Well you click on a bar in this series, eg the blue bar of the coffee. This selects the range of January.
Or just click the downward pointing arrow in the “Chart Area” under the “Layout” tab from the “Chart Tools”. And choose the series that you want to delete.

The data is not deleted in our worksheet, only in our chart.

Adjust “Vertical (Value) Axis”

To change the “Vertical (Value) Axis” , we select them first in our chart.
Click “Format Selection” in the “Format” tab in the “Chart Tools”.

In the “Format Axis” dialogue window the default setting “Auto” is enabled for the “Minimum” and “Maximum” value, etc.
We can change this by selecting the “Fixed” button, and type a value.
Alternatively you can see some more options.
The options in the dialog box depend on the type of chart you have chosen.
Click the “Close” button at the bottom of the dialog to confirm the changes

Adjust “Category (Horizontal) axis”

To adjust the options on the “Category axis (the horizontal axis)”, we perform the same operations.
We first select the category axis of course.
The options for the category axis are also dependent on the type of chart selected.
