Lesson 21: Formatting Paragraphs and Pages (cont 3…)

21/57 Lessons

Bullets

A list of bullets is provided, which is approximately equal to the list of numbers provided.

Just click the “Bullets” icon under the “Home” tab in the ribbon.
Clicking the Enter key on your keyboard displays the next bullet.
Click twice on the Enter key to switch the bullet off.

Another way is to select all of your paragraphs, and click on the button “Bullets” or “Numbering”.
You can only add a bullet or numbering to a paragraph.
To remove a bullet from one or all paragraphs, select the paragraph (s), and click again on the “Bullets” button.

To view the different bullets, click the downward pointing arrow next to the button.
This opens a list of different characters.
Even this list has the option of “Live previews”.

Customize numbered and bulleted lists

For the numbering or bullets to fit into the list, first select the list, and then click the arrow button next to the numbering or bullet button.
Select “Define New Bullet” or “Define New Number Format” from the menu.

In both cases, this opens a dialog where we can adapt our settings.
For the bullets the setting is slightly more extensive than for the numbering.
Click the OK button when you’re done.

Custom headers and footers

We have already seen how a header and footer can be created through blocks.
In this section I will explain how you can make one yourself.
Choose the tab “Insert” on the ribbon, and click the button “Header”.
Click the text “Edit Header”, at the bottom of the list.
This opens a contextual tab “Design”.

And here we find a number of options.
We can add a page number, date, pictures and more.
We also have the option of setting the header of the first page, differently with the rest of the pages.
Or different headers on even pages and odd pages.
You can set the distance of the header from the edge of your page.

And the same applies to footers

Add Page Number

Do you wish only to add a page number in your document without a header or footer, click the button “Page Number” under the tab “Insert” ribbon.
Clicking this button gives us some options to choose from.
We can choose between the top of the page, bottom of the page, in the page margins, or the current position.
This depends on the position of your cursor in the document at that time.

When you make a choice here, this will return the contextual tab “Design” to the menu.

If you wish to number the first page of your document, click the button “Page Number” and choose “Format Page Numbers …” from the menu.

This opens the dialog “Page Number Format”.

Give the page where you want to start numbering.

In this dialog you can also give the layout of the chapter numbers.

Click OK when you’re done.

Awesome!
