Lesson 43 : The Text group

43/57 Lessons

Insert Text Boxes

In earlier versions of Word, text boxes were used to add or create titles, subtitles, etc.
In Word 2007 text boxes are part of the building blocks, which I have already discussed in a previous lesson.
The “Text Box” are found in the ribbon under the tab “Insert”.

When we click on it, a drop-down menu opens with different choices.
Click on the textfield of your choice to place it in your document.
The textfield will appear in your document, as it was shown in the example.

Should you not find anything to your liking, you can still create a textfield yourself.

Click on the “Draw Text Box” below the drop-down menu.
This changes the cursor into a cross.
Click and drag in your document until you’ve reached the right size.

Whether you have chosen a text box from the drop-down menu, or you’ve made one yourself, you can start typing your text once you have inserted the text box.

All text and background of a text can be formatted through the contextual tab “Format”, which appears when the text is selected.

Insert WordArt

WordArt allows us to change text into an image.
Click the “WordArt” button, which we also find in the ribbon under the tab “Insert” in the group “Text”, and it opens a drop-down menu with different styles.
Click the style of your choice, and a dialog box appears.
Type your text in this dialog box, and click the OK button.
Your text will appear in your document.
Even now we have a contextual tab “Format”.

If you had first select text in your document, and then click the button “WordArt”then the selected text will appear in the dialogbox.
We can also provide “WordArt” for Text in “Text Box”.

Drop Cap

You can often see a drop cap at the beginning of a new chapter in a book.
To insert a drop cap first select the paragraph where you want to see the first letter in the large.
Click the button “Drop cap” in the ribbon, under the tab “Insert”.
When we click this we have three options: None – Dropped – In margin.
These seem to be clear, but perhaps we can discuss the last option in the drop down menu the “Drop Cap Options”.
When we click it opens a dialog where we:
1. Can determine the position.
2. Choose a different font.
3. Determine the height of the point by the number of lines.
4. To be able to determine the distance from the first letter to the rest of the text.

Click the OK button when you’re done with your settings.

Awesome!
