Insert Shapes

To insert a shape, we select the tab “Insert” in the ribbon and click the button “Shapes”.
This opens a drop-down menu that is divided into different categories.

Lines, Basic Shapes, Block Arrows, Flowchart, Notes, and Stars and Banners.

On top op of the menu we find the last used shapes.
And at the bottom of the drop down menu we find the option “New Drawing Canvas.”

To add a shape, click in the drop-down menu.
This closes the menu.

Your mouse pointer is changed to a cross.
Click, and hold the mouse button down on the place in your document where you want to insert the form, drag it to the right.
Release the mouse button when the right size for your shape is achieved.

When you release the mouse, you see that the edges of the mold blocks appear blue, and blue circles at the corners.


We use this when we want to change the dimensions of the shape.
The green circle on top, you use if you want to change the direction.

The “Drawing Tools”, together with the contextual tab “Format” appear on the ribbon.

You just have to try all these different formatting options when you have some spare time.

Selecting Shapes

For selecting a shape in a document, click it with your mouse.
To select multiple shapes in a document, hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard while you click the different shapes with the mouse.
If you have multiple shapes selected, and you want to ‘deselect’ one or more, then hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard and click again on the selected shape(s) you wish to ‘deselect’

A second way is to select the tab “Home” in the Ribbon, and click the option “Select”, and choose “Select objects” in the drop-down menu.
Your mouse pointer changes into a white arrow.
Click and drag over the objects you wish to select.

New Drawing Canvas

The “New Drawing Canvas” at the bottom of the drop-down menu “Shapes” is useful when you have to arrange a drawing that consists of various illustrations, or to hold it together when you want to move them.
The “New Drawing Canvas” we find at the bottom of the drop-down menu “Shapes”.

Place the different illustrations on the canvas.
To move the canvas, position the mouse pointer over an edge of the canvas, and it changes into a cross, click and drag to the desired location.
As you can see, all the artwork on the canvas are in their place.

To resize or change the canvas click and drag the black blocks at the edges, and corners.

To copy the canvas, hold the Ctrl key on your keyboard. Place the mouse pointer over an edge, it changes into a ‘plus’ (+).
Click and drag the canvas in your document where you want to place the copy.
