Text/numbers sorting

To sort text (eg a list of members) in our document, we first select all text in our list, and then click the “Sort” button under the tab “Home” in the ribbon.

This opens the dialog “Sort”:The first box “Sort by” click the downward pointing arrow.

This opens a drop-down menu with all our different paragraphs, 5 in total.

Select the paragraph you want to sort.
In this case, I sort by “Name”, this is Field 2.

For clarity:
1 = Field Name
Field 2 = Name
Field 3 = Address
Field 4 = Postcode
Field 5 = Location

The second box, type is set to “Text”, which is fine.
Remark: If you want to sort numbers, then click the drop-down arrow, and select “Number”.
Choose “Ascending” or “Descending” sort.
And click OK
All members are now sorted by name:

If you want to sort multiple columns, select the second box in the column you wish to sort.
The maximum number of columns that can be sorted are three.

Sorting in tables

Sorting data in tables does not differ much from ordinary text sorting.
Place the cursor in the table, and click the “Sort” button.
This opens the dialog “Sort” in a slightly modified form.

In the first box “Sort by” the column title is now listed in each column.
And at the bottom left we have the choice whether we want to sort the first row or not.
Since the first row of my table are column titles, they need not be sorted, I choose “Header Row”, and click OK.

Awesome!
