Lesson 8: Show 6: Film trimming

8/65 Lessons

In ProShow Producer other than the music, films can also be trimmed so that you use the best parts of the film in a show.

New show

  • Create a new show titled “Show 6_Laptop” by clicking [File]> New Show, changing the title in the popup menu to “Show 6_Laptop” and setting the aspect ratio to 4:3 (TV). Then click [Create].
  • With the explorer we select “Lesson 06”. We select the movie “Future laptop” and drag it to the slide list.

Title slide

  • font = Black Aria
  • size = 39
  • color = white
  • bold = selected
  • Text Effects
    • fly in = grow right
    • normal = rotate
    • fly out = explode
  • Outline: selected and in green
  • Drop shadow: de-selected
  • Caption Placement
    • alignment = center
    • positioning = 50 x 40
    • Skew = 44
    • line spacing = 180

Click [OK] and close this window. The duration of the slide is set at 6 sec.

Video Settings

  • Now, we double click on the slide with the video and we select [Layers]- [Video Settings].

There are 2 important buttons which I will discuss in this lesson.

Trimming a Video

  • Click [Trim Video]. This opens the “Trim Video Clip” window.

Here are the various buttons:

  • Play: Plays the selected part of the clip.
  • Pause / Resume: Pauses or restarts the clip.
  • Stop: Stops the clip.
  • Start playback: Starts playing the clip from the current position of the mouse pointer.
  • Stop playback: Stops the clip at the current location of the mouse pointer.
  • Reset: Restores the original start and end positions.
  • Zoom: With this slider you can zoom in and out.
  • Position: With this slider you can determine the position in the clip.
  • Starting position: This window displays the first frame of the clip and the corresponding start time. With the arrows can now move forward or backward to fine tune the correct image from the clip that you want to have as a starting point.
  • Ending position: This window displays the last frame of the clip and as in the previous window, you have the same options.

Synchronizing SlideTimes

  • As you will understand usually after trimming the duration of the clip is shorter. In order to adjust the duration of the slide so that it is equal to the new length of the video clip we have the [Sync SlideTime] option. Click it and you will notice that the time in the slide list has been changed. Click [OK] and close the screen.

Transitions

  • Coming to the transitions we use the same one for all slides. Select a slide, press Ctrl + A, which lets you select all slides and click on a transition. This opens the popup menu with the list of transitions. Select the transition “Explode – Spaced” from the “Blocks” folder and then click [Apply].

Saving a Show

  • Now we can save this show and we do it the usual way. Select [File]- Save As. With the explorer, we then select the appropriate folder. Change the File Name to “Show 6_Laptop” and click [Save].

EXE with a menu button

  • The end product is in EXE format, with a menu and a button. Click on the [Create Output] button on the toolbar at the top. In the popup menu, select [PC Executable] and then select [Menu].
You can specify the settings as shown in the image below.

  • Click [Create] and place the show in the correct folder on your PC and give it the proper name “Lesson6_Laptop”. Then click [Save]. The movie is now created. Then you’re asked whether you want to view it, click [Yes] to see the result.
