Lesson 9: Show 7: Multiple sound tracks and menu buttons

9/65 Lessons

Frequently you will have a whole slew of pictures and / or videos in a show, that you have to handle. Then, it is only natural that you will need to use multiple music tracks.
Further in this lesson, we will also demonstrate how to combine several separate shows, for example, on a DVD and then you can play it on a TV because each part of the show is self controlled and has its own menu button.

New show

  • Create a new show titled “Show 7_Vancouver” by clicking [File]- New Show, changing the title in the popup menu to “Show 7_Vancouver” and retaining the aspect ratio at 4:3. Then click [Create].
  • We select the built-in explorer “Exercise 07”. We select all the photos and drag them to the slide list. The duration of the slides is set at 4 sec and the transition times at 2 sec. Just select all slides, using Ctrl + A, and then change the duration in the corresponding boxes.

Title slide

  • We place a title slide at the beginning of the show. Move the mouse pointer on the first slide, right click and select Insert- Title Slide. In the following picture, you can see the specified settings.

Click [OK] and close this screen.

End slide

  • We place another a title slide at the end of the show. Place the cursor after the show, right click and select Insert- Title Slide. In the picture below we have these specifications.

Click [OK] and close this screen.

Transitions

  • We want random transitions. Select all the slides (Ctrl + A) right click and select Randomize-Randomize Transitions.

Random movements

  • Also, the motion of the pictures can be random. Select all the slides again (Ctrl + A), right click and select Randomize- Randomize Motion Effects- All Effects.

A Show, with 2 music tracks

  • We place 2 music tracks on this show. Since the show takes less time than the duration of both the tracks, we shorten them and only use about half of each track. For greater visual clarity and  to make it easier to work with we open the timeline. Just click on the [Timeline] icon on the toolbar. Now select the mp3 “The Isbells_As Long As It Takes” from “Show 07” and drag it onto the timeline. At about halfway through this song right click and select “Stop Track Here” to trim this track. Now click the [Control] key retained on a square at the top yellow bar and only play the “Fade out” so the music stops gently.
  • Select the track “Enya_To go behind” from “Lesson 07” and drag it to the second music soundtrack behind the 1st. Every track is given a color making it easily distinguishable

Go to the end of the show, right click on the soundtrack and select “Stop Track Here”.
Keep the Ctrl key pressed and select “fade out” as the transition so that the music ends quietly.

Saving a Show

  • Save the show as follows: Select [File]- Save As. With the explorer, select the appropriate folder. Change the File Name to “Show 7_Vancouver” and click [Save].

An EXE file with 2 shows

We now show that not only convert but also that of Ex 6 use in our final product, such that you can play it separately anyway. We retain the EXE format, but now we have to ensure that we have 2 buttons available, to select each show. What we show here with EXE can similarly be used when creating a DVD.

Click on the [Create Output] option on the toolbar at the top .
In the popup menu, select [PC Executable]. Then select the [Shows] tab.
When you click the [+] sign on the left you will see this window.

The following question pops up: “Would you like to create a project and add your current show to it? In project mode, all news shows you create or that you open are automatically added to this project.”
You also have an option that you can select so that this dialog is not displayed again.
Click [Create Project]. This opens the folder list and thus you can determine the correct folder where the show is stored. Click [Open] and the show will be re-opened.

Your toolbar at the top will now look as follows where you can see more than one show in an opened state.

We continue and select [Menu].
We certainly need to select the type of Layout. We want 2 buttons on our screen, i.e, [Two Thumbnails Center].
You can see the specified settings in the picture below.

  • Click [Create] and place the show in the correct folder on your PC and give it the proper name “Oefening7”. Then click on [Save]. The movie is now created. Then you’re asked if you want to view it, click [Yes] and then you get the menu. Now you have the 2 buttons and you can play each show separately by clicking the appropriate button.

Point to remember:

[+] And [-] soundtracks

When the film is created using a timeline, you can stretch or reduce this timeline in a simple way.

Point the mouse at the bottom right in the soundtrack section and then click the [+] and [-] signs. Clicking [+] stretches the film, and clicking on [-] button shortens the film.

What is OFFSET

Offset is the synchronizing time between tracks that can be used to make them overlap. If offset = – 5 seconds, then the 2nd track starts 5 seconds before the 1st stops. However, be careful that you assign the offset to the right track.
