Lesson 56: Show 48: Studio

56/65 Lessons

We are now going to improve our keyframe creations by creating advanced motion effects for an image layer with the use of multiple keyframes. We use a picture with different focus points.

New show

  • Create a new show titled “Show 48_Studio”. Click [File]> [New Show] change your [Show Title], and retain the [Aspect Ratio] at 4:3. Click [Create].

Dragging Photos

  • Select the photo, “Studio” from Lesson 48. Drag it to the slide list. This picture consists of 2 paintings and a door. The intention is, as in a museum painting, you can view the first followed by the second  and then go through the door to another room.

Adjusting Slide and transition time

  • We set the duration of the slide to 30 sec and the transition to 0 sec.

Postioning Keyframes

  • If you analyze this action you will notice that you need a total of 8 keyframes. The time distribution is as follows: 6 seconds for displaying poster 1, 2 seconds to view it, 6 sec to slide to poster 2, 2 sec to view it, 6 seconds to go through the door, 1 sec to to pause for a moment and 7 seconds to go to another room. We always get the standard 2 keyframes, namely the [Starting Position] and [Ending Position] per layer. So we need to create 6 keyframes.
  • Double-click the slide and select [Effects]> [Motion Effects] or click the [Effects] button in the toolbar.
  • Right click on the blue bar and select the [Insert Multiple] option.

Enter the number of additional keyframes in the dialog that appears. In our example, we enter 6. Click [OK].

  • Place the [keyframes] at the right times as follows: right click on a [keyframe] and select [Set Time for this Keyframe] and in the next window, enter the correct time. Its best if you do this from back to front: Place [keyframe 7] at 23 seconds, [keyframe 6] at 22 sec, [keyframe] 5 at 16 sec, [keyframe 4] at 14 sec, [keyframe 3] at 8 sec and [keyframe 2] at 6 sec.

Motion per keyframe

Keyframe 2

  • Now we continue to specify all the movements for each keyframe. In order for the show to display the movement smoothly, without any abrupt movements, it is best to work with exact numerical values. Select the time period between [Keyframe 1] and [Keyframe 2]. Click on the area between these 2 points. It will be blue instead of gray. For [Keyframe 2] we set the [Zoom] at 250% and we place the painting in the middle portion, i.e, the [Pan] = 65 x 30. Now it seems as if we just caught a glimpse of the first painting.

Keyframe 3

  • Select the zone between [Keyframe 2] and [3]. [Keyframe 3] is equal to [Keyframe 2]. Click [Copy Motion Effects] and select [Copy Start to End]. Now it seems as if we are looking at this painting.

Keyframe 4

  • Select the zone between [Keyframe 3] and [4]. First we copy the settings of [Keyframe 3] to [Keyframe 4]. Click [Copy Motion Effects] and select [Copy Start to End]. We then shift the picture horizontally, so set the [Pan] = -12 x 30 in [Keyframe 4]. Now it seems as if we are moving on to the second painting.

Keyframe 5

  • Select the zone between [Keyframe 4] and [5]. Copy the settings of [Keyframe 4] to [Keyframe 5]. Click on [Copy Motion Effects] and select [Copy Start to End]. Once again it seems as if we’re looking at this painting.

Keyframe 6

  • Select the zone between [Keyframe 5] and [6]. First copy the settings of [Keyframe 5] to [Keyframe 6]. Click on [Copy Motion Effects] and select [Copy Start to End]. We then shift the picture further, horizontally. We thus set the [Pan] = -65 x 30 for [Keyframe 6]. Now we seem to be moving towards the door.

Keyframe 7

  • Select the zone between [Keyframe 6] and [7]. Copy [Keyframe 6] to [Keyframe 7]. Click [Copy Motion Effects] and select [Copy Start to End]. Once again we seem to be standing still.

Keyframe 8

  • Here’s the last step. Select the zone between [Keyframe 7] and [8]. First we copy the settings of [Keyframe 7] to [Keyframe 8]. Click [Copy Motion Effects] and select [Copy Start to End]. And then we zoom out. In [Keyframe 8], set the [Zoom] to 500%, and now the door is installed properly, and the [Pan] = -165 x 30. So, it seems as if we’re going through the door to another room.

For this show, the [Motion Speed] is set to [Smooth] for all keyframes since this option is the most appropriate one for the motion effects that are used.

Adding Music

  • To round it all off we add music. Select the “Piano.wav” track from Lesson 48 and drag it to the [Soundtrack]. Click on the [Timeline] button in the toolbar. To trim the music track, click [Stop Track Here], and set the [Fade Out] to 3 seconds.

Saving the Show

  • Save this project now. Click [File]> [Save As] and select the correct folder, using the explorer, in which you want to save this project and change the [Name] if necessary. Click [Save].
