Lesson 42: Show 36: Film and Photos

42/65 Lessons

This lesson demonstartes that a combination of pictures, sounds and videos are possible on a slide.

New show

  • Create a new show titled “Show 36_Tripoint”. Select [File]> [New show] and change the title in the [Show Title] box, and retain the aspect ratio at 4:3. Click [Create].

Slide with a background

  • We begin by placing a background on the first slide. Right click on the slide and select [Insert]> [Blank slide] from the popup menu. You can also use the keyboard shortcut [Alt] + [I]. Double-click the slide and select [Slide]> [Background]. Select [Background Type] and select the radio button, [Image]. Click [Select]> [Select image file] and select the photograph, “Tripoint_Bacckground” from Lesson 36. Then click [Open] and then [OK].

Photos, videos and gif files as layers

  • Select the following photos from Exercise 36 “2010_Tripoint f (1), f (6) and f (7) and drag them on the 1st slide like layers, keeping the [Ctrl] key pressed while dragging.
  • Add the movie, “Tripoint.asf” as a layer on the 1st slide.
  • We then place the “Eagle” as a layer on the slide set.
  • We are now going to place these layers in an orderly manner, on the slide.
    Double-click the slide and select [Layers]> [Layer Settings]:
    2010_Tripoint f (1): [Zoom] = 30%; [position] = -25 x 22,
    2010_Tripoint f (6): [Zoom] = 30%; [position] = 25 x 22,
    2010_Tripoint f (7): [Zoom] = 45%, [position] = 27 x -22,
    2010_Tripoint video: [Zoom] = 40%, [position] = -20 x -22,
    Eagle: [Zoom] = 25%; [position] = 0 x 0.

Trimming the video

  • We now trim the movie. Before this we select [Layer]> [Video Settings]. We then select the layer with the video. We click on the [Trim video] button. In this case, we are not going to use some portion at the end of the film. The video seems to be trimmed but ProShow hides the portion that is not being used.
    To determine the correct endpoint, we first roughly select the endpoint and then refine this accurately by using the refinement arrows. Set the [Video Ending Time] to 24.387. Click [OK] to exit this window.
    We must not forget to adjust the duration of our slide.
    Thus, we click the [Sync SlideTime] button and to sunchronize the duration of the slide.

Moving a gif file

  • The last thing we need to adjust in this slide is the gif file, “Eagle”. This is moved across the screen. Select [Effects]> [Motion Effects]. Select the layer, [Eagle], and drag it in the 1st screen to the left, and set [Pan] = -60 x 25.
    Drag the [Eagle] in the right screen to the top right, and set the [Pan] = 60 x -30. Click [OK] and close this window.

Layers with styles

  • Before this slide, we add one where we add 4 photos with a built-in style.
    Right click and select [Insert]> [Blank slide]. We select 4 photos from Exercise 36 with the names, “2010_Tripoint f (2), f (3), f (4) and f (5) and drag them as layers on the new slide. Double-click the slide and select [Slide]> [Slide Styles]. In the list of styles we select those that are to be used for the 4 photos. Here we select the style, [Display or four]. By selecting this, you can see the preview at the top in the small window. We click [Apply] and the next window appears, to announce that all previous styles will be overwritten, and then we just go on by clicking the [OK] button. This style is applied to our slide. Click [OK] to close this window.

Adjusting the duration

  • We set the duration of the slide at 10 sec.

Creating a Title Slide

  • Now we still have to add a title slide.
    Right click and select [Insert]> [Title Slide]. In the text box we enter:

Tripoint

Here we use the following settings for the text:

[Font] = Georgia,
[Size] = 24,
[Bold],
[Color] = red, RGB = 245/23/23,
[Text Effects], [Fly in] = Fade Circle, [Fly out] = Explode,
[Center alignment]
[Position] = 50 x 50,
[Rotate] = -30,
[Character spacing] = 163.

Setting the Background and duration

  • We select the same background which was used in our 3rd slide. In [Slide]> [Background] select the [Background Type] checkbox. Click [OK]. Set the duration of the slide at 4 sec.

Adding Music

  • Now, we only have to add music. Drag the mp3 of “A. Rieu” to the soundtrack. Use the [Timeline]. Just click the [Slide List / Timeline] button in the toolbar. Using [Stop Track Here] and the [Ctrl] key, we apply this to music so that it is appropriate for this show.

Mute

  • In the movie at the beginning of slide 3, you have a disturbing sound. We try and mute this. To do this double click on the [Soundtrack] and in [Show Options]> [Music] set the following options: In [Defaults for Other Sounds] (default values for other sounds): volume = 0, In [Soundtrack During Other Sounds] (Basic music during the other sounds): volume = 100. Click [Done].

Saving the show

  • Save this project under the name “Show 36_Tripoint”. Click [File]> [Save As], select the appropriate folder using the explorer and change the [Name] if necessary.
