Lesson 15: Show 12:Introduction of depth in layers

15/65 Lessons

How can you outline edges and use a 3D effect?

New show

  • Create a new show titled “3D effect” by clicking File> New show; changing the title in the window that appears to “3D Effect”, and retaining the aspect ratio at 4:3. The title is displayed on the menu bar just below the toolbar with all the buttons.

Blank slide

  • We now create a blank slide. On the slide list, right click and select [Insert] from the drop down menu and then select [Blank slide]. On the slide list we find a black square with the standard type and a transition with the standard duration.

Specific background

  • This slide can have a specific background. Double-click the slide and in the [Slide Options] window select [Slide]> [Background].
  • Change the background with an image from our folder, “Show 12” called “Abstract_06”
We do this by selecting the [On / Off] check box in the “Background Type” section.

Background types

This option gives you 3 choices. The radio buttons are present for you to take yor pick.

  • “Solid Color”: This option can be used if you want a solid color background that you can select from the color wheel.
  • “Gradient”: This option allows you to have a gradient background. You can select the desired pattern from the menu that opens.
  • “Image”: Select this option if you want a picture as your background.

In this exercise we selct the “Type” as “Image”. We then click the [Select] button.

We select the first option which is “Select Image File” and then we get the dialog box in which we have the folder “My God 12” and in this folder, we select “Abstract_06” and open it.
The preview section will display this picture as the background.

It may be that the background does not completely fill the screen. To adjust this, we go to the “Editing Tools” section and we adjust the scale.

In the “Scaling” menu select the “fit to frame” option.

NOTE: A background is NOT a layer and therefore can not be treated as one.
Click OK and exit this window.

2 photos as layers

  • Now we import 2 photos, “Airport” and “Pilot” to this slide as layers.
Before this, we select these 2 pictures with the [Ctrl] or [Shift] keys in the “Folder list”.
On how to get them on the slide as layers, we have already seen several options. In this lesson we are going to use the drag method, while the [Ctrl] key is pressed, but it is usually best to use other methods in your show.
So drag this selection on the 1st slide. To really be able to see the layers, we double-click on the slide and in the [Slide Options] window, we select [Layers]> [Layer Settings].

Organizing Layers

  • We will now work with these layers. First we correct the order of the layers. The layer “Pilot” is moved to the top. You can do this by dragging this layer above the others, or use “Move Up” arrow in the “Layers” window.

Re-sizing and moving Layers

  • The layer “Pilot”, is compressed and moved. In the [Layer Settings] place the “zoom” slider at 30%
The layer “Pilot” is positioned at the top right corner; “Position” = 27 x -27
The layer “Airport”, is zoomed to 75%

Framework and shadow layers

  • To get the 3D effect we need to have both a frame and shade for an image.
Go to [Layers]> [Editing], select the layer, “Pilot”, select the [Outline] check box and select the color white from the color wheel and set the width (size) to 2. Now we select the [Drop Shadow] check box and we select black from the color wheel and place the opacity at 75. Do the same for the layer “Airport” for both the [Outline] and [Drop Shadow] options.
    Now click on OK.

Saving the Show

  • Save this show under the name “Show  12_3D Effect”. Click “File”> Save As, select the appropriate folder in which you want to store this project using the explorer and change the File name to “Show 12_3D Effect”.

EXE file

  • For the final product (EXE) click the [Create Output] button, and select [PC executables]. In the [Create executable] window we select [No menus] from the list on the right and click [Create]. With the browser we choose the correct folder and change the file name to “Lesson12_3D Effect” and click save.
  • Now the movie is created and then you have an option of viewing this immediately.

Grids in preview window

In the “Preview” section in the [Slide Options] window grids can be displayed.
Right click anywhere in the [preview] section and select “Showgrid” from the drop down menu

If you select “Define Grid”

then you can decide how long and wide each cell will be, and how many cells are needed and you can even select the color of the lines.
