Lesson 26: Show 22: Create a Style “Explosion”

26/65 Lessons

Proshow already contains many styles. We can play with layers using various Styles. This lesson is an auxiliary to gain more insight into the structure of a style.
The intent is to spin 4 photos to the 4 corners of the canvas, just like an explosion, and then to slightly enlarge the 5th photo.

New show

  • Create a new show titled “Show 22_Explosion”. Click [File]> New Show; Change the title in the Show Title to “Show 22_Explosion” in the menu that appears and retain the aspect ratio at 4:3. Click [Create].

Dragging photos

  • We drag the 5 photos which were used in Lesson 22, City_1 t o City_5 to the slide list as layers. Select them all, using the [Shift] key, and drag them using the [Ctrl] key to the slide list.

Gradient background

  • The background color is set as a gradient. Double-click the slide and select [Slide]> [Background]. In the [Background type] section we select the [On / Off] checkbox and in [Type], we select [Gradient].
    We then click [Edit Gradient].

We have gone over these options in our previous lessons. [Presets] = Pastels, [Type] = Linear and we select the last combination of colors in the list.

Zooming into a Photo

  • Select [Layers]> [Layers Settings]. Select layer 1 and move the [Zoom] up to 30%.

Zooming into other pictures

  • Now we need to have the same zoom level for all the other photos. Select the “Zoom” box and make sure the number is selected in blue. Then right click and select [Copy Zoom to all layers on this slide] from the popup menu. (copy zoom to all sections of this slide).

Border and shadows

  • Give layer 1 a red border and a shadow with a brightness of 75%.
Select [Layers]> [Editing]. Select the [Outline] checkbox, click the [Set] button, select [Colour] and use the color wheel to select a color, which is “red” in this case. The [Size], which specifies the thickness of the border, is set to 2.
We then de-select the [Drop Shadow] checkbox. In [Color], we select black, but the [Opacity] is set at 75%.

Copying Borders and shadows to other layers

These settings for the border and shadow are copied to all layers in this slide. It is necessary to select each component separately and then copy it.
Do it in the following manner:

  • Move the mouse pointer over the [On/Off] box of the [Outline] section, right click and select [Copy Enable to all layers on this slide].

  • The following method is used to copy the color. Place the mouse in the [Color] box and right click and select [Copy Color to all layers on this slide]

  • Do the same thing for the [Size] of the border.

However, make sure that you have selected it before right clicking.

  • All this is repeated for the [Drop Shadow] option.

  • Select the [On/Off] box.

  • Do the same thing for the [Opacity]

Positioning Photos

The 1st part of the explosion is to pan the photos while moving them to the corners. You only have to use the [Pan] option, for both the starting and ending positions.

  • City_1 to left: [Pan] = -34 x -34
  • City_2 to left: [Pan] = -34 x 34
  • City_3 to right above: [Pan] = 34 x -34
  • City_4 to right: [Pan] = 34 x 34

Tip: You can also use the grid lines for help.

Rotating the Photos

The 2nd part of the explosion is rotating the photos while moving them to the corners. You only have to use the [Rotate] option, for both the starting and ending positions.

  • City_1: [Rotate] from -360 to 360
  • City_2: [Rotate] from -360 to 360
  • City_3: [Rotate] from 360 to -360
  • City_4: [Rotate] from 360 to -360

Close the [Slide Options] window by clicking the [OK] button.

Adjusting the duration and transition time for Slide 1

  • We can accelerate the rotation throughout the duration of the slide and zoom out. Set this to 1 sec. The transition time is set to 0 sec.

Creating a new copy for the closing slide

  • After the explosion we want to add something extra. We will zoom the picture in the middle. This is done in a new slide. This requires a copy of the final state of the 1st slide. This can be captured in an action. Double-click the first slide and select [Effects]> [Motion Effects] and click on the button, [Copy Motion Effects] and select [Copy End to Next Slide (All layers)] from the popup menu.

Background “Gradient”

  • The background of the second slide is set as described in paragraph 3 of this lesson.

Zooming into a Photo

  • The photo ,”City_5″, is enlarged as follows. Select [Effects]> [Motion Effects] and set the [Zoom] of the [Starting position] at 30% and the [Ending position] at 50%.

Adjusting the duration and transition times of Slide 2

  • For the 2nd slide, we change the slide duration and transition times to 4 secs and 2 secs respectively.

Saving the Show

  • Save this project under the name “Show 22_Explosion”. Click [File]> [Save As], navigate with the browser, to the correct folder in which you want to save this project and if necessary change the File Name to “Show 22_Explosion”.
