Lesson 41: Show 35: Sound on a slide

41/65 Lessons

There are not many sound channels in ProShow. But besides the soundtrack, you can also have a sound on a slide. An example is discussed in this lesson.

New show

  • Create a new show titled “Show 35_Farmhouse”. Click [File]> [New Show], change the [Show Title], and set the [Aspect Ratio] at 4:3. Click [Create].

Gifs as layers on Slide1

  • In the first slide, we drag the pictures of the 2 roosters from Lesson 35 as layers to the slide list.

Changing the Background

  • We will now change the background. Right click on the slide list and select [Slide]> [Background]. Select the [Override backgound for this slide show] checkbox. We select the radio button, [Image] and then click the [Select] button. Using [Select Image File] we navigate with the explorer to Lesson 35 and open the picture, “Farmhouse_Background”.

Zooming into and Positioning Layers

  • Using [Layers]> [Layer Settings], we reduce the zoom levels of the 2 layers to 25%, [Zoom] = 25, and the layer [Cock_1] is placed at [Position] = -25 x 25 and [Cock_2] at [Position] = 20 x 20.

Editing Layers

Using [Layers]> [Editing] we specify the [Opacity] (translucent) = 80 for the two layers

Adjusting the Speed ??of a poison

  • While playing the preview, you will see that the slide [Cock_1], is displayed too rapidly. We can adjust its speed. Click [Layers]> [Video Settings], select the layer [Cock_1] and set the [Speed] at 25%. Click [OK] and close this menu.

Dragging layers and Gifs to slide 2

  • We now create the 2nd slide. Select the 2 cocks from Lesson 35 to the 2nd slide as layers.

Changing the Background

  • We also change the background of this slide. Double-click the slide and select [Slide]> [Background]. As described above, we go to the [Image] and click the [Select] button and use the photo explorer to open the picture, “Poultry_background”.

Scaling

  • Set the [Scaling] in the [Editing Tools] to [Fill frame].

Zooming and positioning Layers

  • Using [Layers]> [Layer Settings], we reduce the 2 layers to 25%, setting the [Zoom] = 25, and we place [Poultry_1] at [Position] = -35 x 30 and [Poultry_2] at [Position] = 0 x 5.

Editing Layers

  • Using [Layers]> [Editing] we set the [Opacity] = 80 for both the layers.

Duplicating layers and positioning

  • For [Poultry_1] we add an extra layer and we add four extra layers for [Poultry_2].
We do this as follows. Select [Layers]> [Layer Settings]. Select the layer, [Poultry_1], right click it and click [Duplicate Layer]. We place this layer at [Position] = -30 x 10.
We select the layer, [Poultry_2] and we duplicate it 4 times.
Each of these duplicated layers of poultry are placed somewhere between the other layers in the picture. You can do this in whatever order you want. For my example, the following are the [Positions]: 32 x 9, -14 x -11; 19 x -27 and 5 x -41. Click [OK] and close the menu.

Inserting Sounds on a slide

  • Now it’s time to insert sounds. These sounds, however, are assigned to a slide show and not on the Soundtrack. Double-click the first slide and select [Sounds]> [Sound Effects].

Using the [Select Sound] button (1) we select the sound “Cock_1.wav” from Lesson 35. Since we do not know exactly how long the sound is, we use the [Sync SlideTime] button (2). This adapts the length of the soundtrack to the duration of our slide.
We also introduce a sound for the 2nd slide. Using the same tab, we again click [Select Sound] and with the explorer we drag the sound “Chickens.wav” to it. This is done in the same way as the previous slide, using the [Sync SlideTime] option to set the duration. Click [OK] to close this.

How do you see that there is sound on a slide

As we know the slide list can be displayed in 2 ways. In both options, you can see if a sound is placed on a slide.

  • In the [Slide list] a loudspeaker is displayed to the left of the slide.

  • In the [Timeline] you can see the sound in the form of sound waves.

Saving the show

  • Save this project by clicking [File]> [Save As], selecting the appropriate folder using the explorer and changing the [Name] if necessary. Then click on [Save].
