Lesson 63: Show 55: Playing with Shadows

63/65 Lessons

The feature, [Drop Shadow], in ProShow Producer is very limited. In this lesson, we will place a shadow behind a photo to get a better 3D effect.
We will make as large as we want and also move it along with our pictures.

New show

  • Create a new show titled “Show 55_Shadow”. Click [File]> [New Show], change the [Show Title], and retain the [Aspect Ratio] at 4:3. Click [Create].

Photos on a slide

  • Take any picture and drag it onto the slide list.

Adjusting the Slide duration and transition times

  • Set the duration to 4 seconds and the transition time to 0 sec.

Enlarging the Photo

  • Double-click the slide and in [Layer]> [Layer Settings] set the zoom to 55%.

White background

  • We select a white background. Select [Slide]> [Background], select the [Background Type] and select [Solid Color] and using the color wheel, select “white”.

Moving a picture

  • Lets move this picture a bit. Select [Effects]> [Motion Effects] and for [Keyframe 2] set the [Zoom] at 35% and [Rotate] to 10.

Additional image to freeze a keyframe

  • We want no movement at the last second. For this, we create an extra keyframe at time “3 sec”. Now we create [Keyframe 2] = [Keyframe 3]. This can also be done with the copy and paste function.

Duplicate Layer

  • Next, we duplicate the layer. Right click on the [Layer] and select [Duplicate Layer]. We do this to the give the shadow the same setting as the photo.

Black shadow

  • In the 2nd layer we select [Layer]> [Editing] and for the [Brightness] and [White Point] we select “-100”. This gives us a dark shadow.

Shadow Effect

  • Now we come to the shadow effect. In [Effects]> [Motion Effects] for [Keyframe 1] you shift the picture to the right, i.e, [Pan] = 4 x 6. For [Keyframe 2] we slide it underneath but not as far, i.e, [Pan] = 1 x 3. We don’t forget to make [Keyframe 3] equal to [Keyframe 2].

Softening the Shadow

  • Now we soften the shadow. Select [Effects]> [Adjustment Effects] and for [Keyframe 1], set the  [Opacity] to 60 and [Blur] to 50 and for [Keyframe 2] set these at 80 and 20 respectively. Again, we make [Keyframe 3] equal to [Keyframe 2]. Close this window and thus we obtain our desired shadow.

Saving the Show

  • Save this project. Click [File]> [Save As] and select the correct folder, in which you want to save this project using the explorer, and change the [Name] if necessary. Click [Save].
