4/65 Lessons

In this lesson, we delve more deeply into ProShow Producer.
There are several new features on offer:

  • Adding a blank slide and a slide title
  • Adjusting the slide duration and transition
  • music and show fit
  • Adding a menu in the finished slideshow

Creating a new show

  • Create a new show titled “Show 2_Winter season” by clicking on “File”- “New Show”, and changing the title in the popup menu to “Show 2_Winter season” and retaining the aspect ratio as 4:3. Then click [Create].
  • We select “Lesson 02” from the built-in explorer. We then select all the photos and drag them to the slide list.

Adding a Blank Slide

  • We can insert a blank slide in front of or behind a picture os another slide. First select the photo in the slide list and then right click and in the dropdown menu, select Insert- Blank Slide (Alt + I). Place the cursor after the last photo, and again right click and select Insert- Blank Slide.

Adding a Title slide

  • We insert a title slide in a similar manner. First select the photo, right click and select Insert- Title Slide (Alt + T). This opens the “Slide Options” screen and in the “Captions” text box enter “winter atmosphere” and then click [OK]. Select the blank slide once again, right click and select Insert- Title Slide. In the text area of the “Slide Options” window, type “End” and close it by clicking the [OK] button.

Selecting transitions

  • We then select transitions. Move the mouse pointer on the first transition, click it and the popup menu containing all possible transitions opens. Select a certain category, select a transition and click [Apply]. Do this for all transitions.

Adjusting durations

The durations of the slide and the transitions can be changed. This is extremely simple. Click on the time box, so that the numbers in the box are selected in blue and enter your desired time and press [enter]. For example, for the blank slides we set the duration to 0.25 sec and the transition time to 0 sec.

  • There are a number of other options to adjust durations.
    • slide by slide, transition by transition; Select the slide and transition that you want to change and then change the duration.
    • transitions and multiple slides consecutively (with shift key). You can also adjust a series of consecutive slides and transitions at a time. Select the first slide of the series, keep the shift key pressed, and then select the last slide. Click on the boxes containing the duration of the selection, enter your desired duration and press [enter]. For example, all times within the range can be adjusted.
    • multiple slides and transitions which are randomly selected (Ctrl key): You may also want to adjust some random slides and transitions. Select the first slide of the series, keep the Control key pressed, and select the other slides. Click on the time boxes in the selected slides enter your desired duration and press [enter]. Thus, the durations of the selected slides are adjusted.
    • all simultaneously (Ctrl A) Select a slide on the slide list, and press Ctrl + A. This selects all slides and transitions. Enter the required duration in the time boxes of a slide and/or a transition, and press [enter]. It will be adapted for all the slides and/or transitions.

Adding Music to the show

  • Furthermore, we can add music to the show. In the folder “My God 02” select the track, “The Shadows_Sleepwalk” and drag it to the Soundtrack. Usually, the selected music is shorter or longer than the show. In this lesson we will synchronize them together. Double click on Soundtrack and you get the “Show Options” popup menu under the “Music” tab.
  • Music” Tab:
  • Click the “Sync Slide to Audio” button.

This gives the following screen:

Synchronize Show to Soundtrack

You can specify your settings using the radio buttons and / or check boxes :

Which Slides Section (Which slides?)

  • Sync all slides in the show (Synchronizes all slides in the show)
  • Sync only the currently selected slides (Synchronizes only the currently selected slides)

Which Times Section (Which times?)

  • Adjust slide times (adjusts the slide duration according to the sound track)
  • Adjust transition times (adjusts the transition duration according to the sound track)

How to adjust Section (How to adjust?)

  • Keep the proportions the same as existing times (Keeps the same proportions as the existing durations)
  • Make all times the same (Makes all durations the same)
  • Limit transitions to xxx or less (Limit transitions to xxx seconds or less)

Select Audio Track Section (selecting the audio track)

  • Match to total soundtrack length (Make it equal to the total duration of all sound tracks)
  • Match to length of selected tracks (Make it equal to the total duration of the selected sound tracks)

In this case we synchronize all slides to the music and all slide and transition times may be modified but we keep the same proportions.
Click “Sync” and ProShow does the rest.
To close the “Show Options” screen, click [Done].

Saving a Show

Now we can save this show. On the menu bar, select [File]- Save As. Then select the appropriate folder. Change the File Name to “Show 2_Winter season” and click [Save].

Creating a Menu for the Show

Now we convert the Show to a movie. This time we create a finished product, in EXE format, but where we create a menu with a separate starter button.
Click on the “Create Output” button on the toolbar at the top of the window.
In the popup menu, select “PC Executable”. In the popup menu select “Menu” as the first theme. This is what you will have for a background.

In the Menu Contents section, we enter the title as “Winter”.
In the Menu Layout section, we specify the layout and the aspect ratio.
For the Layout, we select “One Thumbnail Center” in the dropdown menu (a button) and we select 4:3 (TV) as the Aspect Ratio.
Click on “Create” and select the correct folder from the list of folders on your PC where you want to save the show and give it the name “Lesson2_Winter season”. Then click on “Save”. The movie is now created. Then you will be asked whether you want to view the preview, click “Yes” and you can see the result. Now you need to select the correct option from the menu to see the movie.
