Lesson 40: Settings in the creation of Output files

40/65 Lessons

In this chapter we give you more details about how to select the format that is best suited for your video, to get the final product. There are several options in the choice of the medium such as DVD, Video files, Youtube. etc… and there are several formats like AVI, WMV, MPEG, etc…

First we will give you an overview of all options and the various formats. This can go on forever even though you use a different kind of output.

Creating an output file

When you click the [Create Output] button in the toolbar at the top of ProShow the following window appears:

Here you can select whatever medium you want to use.

In this example we create a DVD.
So we click on [DVD].
A window opens and it contains these tabs:
Menu – Shows – Options – Burning – Executable – Branding – Color

MENU window

In this window you have the following options:

  • [Title]: The title text on the welcome screen of your DVD.
  • [Thumbnails]: Selecting this checkbox indicates that you are using thumbnails as buttons for the main menu. You can also set a time for these previews, and in this example it is set to 5 sec.
  • [Layout]: This is the option that lets you determine how many [buttons] are to be displayed on the window.
  • [Appearance]: You have 3 options here. You can either select your classic 4:3 TV screen, widescreen 19:6 screen TV or a proprietary format (Custom).

SHOWS window

In this window you have:

  • [Set Menu Title]: determines the title of the show.
  • [Set Menu Thumbnail]: used to select the image that is to be displayed in the [button].
  • De-select the [Include Intro Show] check box.
This is used only if you want to have an introductory movie before the real show begins. This is mostly useful for companies and clubs.

OPTIONS window

This window determines the quality of your product.

  • [DVD Type]: In the dropdown menu you have a number of options. The rule is “Higher quality requires more memory.” The better the quality the less it is used for a DVD.
  • [TV system]: Europe uses the PAL system.
  • [Audio Type]: Opt for MP2. Most DVD players would recognize this. If not then you can try PCM which is the other option.
  • [Quality Encoding]: Gives you a choice of high or normal quality.

BURNING window

  • [DVD Writer]: In ProShow, this field is normally filled with the DVD writer on your PC.
  • [Speed]: For the best speed select the lowest option. Not all devices can play all speeds.
  • [Disc Label]: Here you enter the name that you want the DVD to be known as.
  • [Include Original Photos]: With this selected, the pictures used in making your show are burned in a separate folder on the DVD.

EXECUTABLE window

  • [PC autorun]: When this checkbox is selected the DVD format creates an exe file on the DVD. This is especially useful if you want to watch DVD on your own PC or a PC elsewhere. Then you can view it just by using the Windows Media player and there is no specific application needed to be able to view this DVD.
  • [Windows Size]: 800 x 600, which is size of the screen that opens when you play the exe file on your PC.
  • [Audio Quality] [Video Quality] [Video Clip Resolution]: Depending on your memory on the DVD you can select a certain quality.
  • [On-Screen Controls]: This is best if it is selected. During playback of a movie you can perform more operations, with selectors, such as pause, stop etc..

BRANDING window

  • [Show Startup Screen]: This is best selected. Then you get a guard bar when you open your movie.
  • [Show Progress Bar]: This is also best selected. This lets you determine the text and colors that are used on the guard bar.
  • [Title]: Here you can enter your personal title. For companies, it is usually the company name.

COLOR window

This window displays all the best options as standard.

Creating a YouTube video

To create a movie and to post it on Youtube, you just need to fill in various fields to fill.

  • [YouTube Username]: You need to specify your username here. If you have not yet registered with YouTube, then you must first do so.
  • [YouTube Password]: This password is associated with the username.
  • [Quality]: This is a dropdown menu where you can determine the quality of your video.
  • [Title] and [Description]: Here you enter a title and a description of your movie. Feel free to fill in as many or as few characters as necessary.
  • [Tags]: These are “descriptions” which you can use to easily find your film on the Internet, at a later point of time, examples may include your name, location of the story, name of video etc…
  • [Video Category]: From this menu select the category that best fits your movie.

Below this you have the option of either keeping the video on your PC [Save Video To My Computer], or directly uploading it on the web [Upload To YouTube].

Creating a VIDEO FILE: AVI, MPG, WMV

  • Video Preset – [Type]: Here you get an extensive drop-down menu. These are: DVD, HD, Video CD, AVI, and Custom PC formats. Each of the options also determines how the following fields can be filled. In our example we select [Custom]. Thus the fields [Quality] and [TV system] are no longer available.

Format Settings:

  • [Format]: Here, once again there are several options, which are: AVI compressed, uncompressed AVI, Flash Video, MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG4, OGG, WMV and Quick Time.
  • [With Audio]: You can choose to go with or without audio. The best thing to do is to just select this.
  • [Compression]: Depending on the size selected, you get additional options here.
  • [Resolution]: Here you specify the resolution to match your PC, eg 1024 x 768 or 1680 x 1050 for widescreen.
  • [Frame rate]: This determines the number of frames per second. Quality is improved because the number of frames per second increases.
  • [Aspect Ratio]: Select the standard or widescreen options.
  • [Encoding]: Here also you can select the quality ProShow then uses this to encrypt the video.

Thus, we have gone over all the options you can use to create your movie.
