Photoshop - CS2 - CS3

Lesson 1: Intro to Photoshop

1/85 Lessons

The working environment

When we open Photoshop we see the default window with the title bar at the top with the name of the application on the left, in my case this is the English version of Photoshop CS3 Extended.

The Extended version contains all the features in Photoshop CS3 plus specialized features such as support for 3D and video workflows, animation and image depth analysis.

On the right we find the buttons to minimize, maximize and close, we know from almost any Microsoft Application.

Clicking on these buttons, as you know, relates to the application.

Under the title bar, we find the Menubar with the following commands:
File (File), Edit (Edit), Image (Image), Layer (Layer), Select (Select), Filter, Anlysis (Analysis) (only extended version), View (View), Window (Window) and Help.
Clicking on one of these commands opens a dropdown menu with more commands.
When we point the mouse pointer over a command with a black arrow next to it, it opens a submenu.

As you can see in the picture above there is a shortcut listed next to some commands, clicking on these buttons on our keyboards will run this command.
For example, when we click on the buttons Ctrl + N, the dialog will be opened to create a new file.

Under the menu, we find the options bar. We have the various editing options here, depending on the tool selected in the Toolbox.
On the left of our window we find the toolbox with all tools (Tools) that we have at our disposal to edit our image.
Clicking on the double arrows at the top right of the toolbox will display it in two columns.

On the right side of the window, we have the different pallets.
In the next lesson we see how the properties of the window can be set to your liking.
