Marquee change

To change the marquee without affecting the size of your text, select the text tool, click in the bounding box and click and drag the edges to the correct size.

If you want the size of the text also to be adapted to the size of the frame, just select the layer and click and drag the pieces of the frame to the right size.

Editing Text Blocks

First I will discuss the antialiasing method here.
With anti-aliasing, you can make the edges of the text soft and fill the pixels partially. As a result the the edges of the text blend into the background.
Click on the downward pointing arrow next to the box “aa”.
You can choose from five different options:

  • None: There is no anti-aliasing
  • Sharp: The text is displayed as sharp as possible
  • Crisp: The text is in a very sharp display
  • Strong: The text is displayed quite heavy
  • Smooth: The text will appear smooth

The difference between Crisp and Smooth is minimal.
I use “Strong” for text size.

The “Character” and “Paragraph” panels are both used for our editing.
Most options in the “Character” palette relate only to the selected parts of the text.
Most of the options from the “Paragraph” palette are for including in the paragraph.
But there are exceptions.
For example, the option “Fractional Widths” covers the entire text layer.
“Fractional Widths” provides better tracking in your text.
Normally this is checked by default. If this is not the case, then turn it on now.

The following is the “Paragraph” palette.
Here you would select “Adobe Every-line Composer” to tick.
When this option is checked, Photoshop calculates the space between the characters for each line.
If Single line, it only does it for the first line.

And then finally you have the alignment for your text.
If you have made the last three changes, your text will have a lot more professional look.
In the next lesson we will look at how to put text on a path.
