Lesson 27: Selection Tools (4)

27/85 Lessons

Rectangular Marquee Tool (Marquee)

Before we invert the selection, we first need the non-selected parts on the bottom left of photo selection and also to “de-select” the selected parts in the balloon.

To select the non-selected parts, I use the “Rectangular Marquee” Tool
(Marquee).
First select the button “Add selected” on the Options bar.
Then select the “Rectangular Marquee” Tool Image02 (here you can use any selection tool).
Click and drag over the non-selected parts of the picture:

Lasso Tool

To “de-select” the selected parts, I do exactly the same, but then I use the “Subtract from Selection” in the options bar.
Select the “Lasso” tool from the Toolbox and click and drag around the selected area in the balloon that we wish to “de-select”.
But again you do not need to use the “Lasso” tool, you can do this with any selection tool of your choice.

Inverse (Invert)

Ok, we have now selected everything we want to select and we already have you deselect what we should “de-select”, we can now invert the selection.
Click on the “Select” – “Inverse” (Invert selection) in the menubar.

We’ll refine our selection a little before I insert the balloon into the picture of the large market of St-Niklaas, as this should satify our selection requirements, it may be better to insert on a white background.
