45/85 Lessons

Based on channel mask (2)

As you can see now, the face is completely white.

Now we have our mask, we must also use a different background.
Before we can use the mask, we must make a selection.
To do this, first select the RGB channel and then you load the mask as a selection.
So first click on the RGB channel and then choose “Select” – “Load Selection” .. in the menu bar.
In the dialog that appears, choose “my mask” from the dropdown menu under the “Channel” box.
A quicker way is, to select the RGB channel and click “my channel” button while holding the Ctrl button pressed.

OK, that nice lady should now be selected.
Open the photo you want to use as wallpaper.
Chlick and drag the lady to the background picture.
For this, select the “Move” tool, or hold the Ctrl key, that works too.

Our lady now has a different background, but the edges of the hair are a bit dark. So we continue to edit it.

When we open the “Layers” palette, we see that the picture of our lady has its own layer.
I give this a different name (normal), so I can still see where I am.
Then I make a copy of this layer by clicking Ctrl + J on the keyboard.
I call the new layer “Exposure” because I am going to change the exposure of this layer and drag this layer below the “normal”.
I set the “Blend Mode” of this layer to “Linear Dodge (Add)”.

To tell the difference between the “normal” layer and “Exposure” layer, click the eye icon on the left of the “normal” layer.
We continue in the next lesson.
