Color Replacement tool (Color Replacement)

With the “Color Replacement” tool (Color Replacement), we can easily replace certain colors in an image.
The “Color Replacement” tool is found in the “Brush” tool group:

In the picture I’ve opened, there are some red circles, some a little easier than the other to replace color.

We select the “Color Replacement tool” and change our foreground color by double clicking on “Set Foreground color” or in the color panel.
If you do not see the “Color panel”, click “Windows” in the menu bar and select “Color”.

I place my cursor on a red circle and click.
The cursor changes into a circle with a cross, the place of the cross indicates the color to be changed, the circle indicates the area where all these colors will be changed.

The circle in the upper right requires a little more work.
Working in the same way does no good.
So we click the button “Sampling Once” in the options bar.
We zoom in so we can clearly see what we are doing.
We make our brush a little smaller in diameter for precise work.
And click on the various pixels in the red circle.

If we are satisfied, we back out from the zoom:

Not bad, if I can say so myself.

The difference between the “Continuous” and other buttons are as follows:
les36_image06_en

“Continuous”: any color under the cross is replaced when I click and drag over with the mouse pointer.
“Sampling Once”: only the color that you first clicked will be replaced.
“Background Swatch” has little or no use.

The box “Tolerance” refers to the deviation of the color, shows a higher tolerance to a higher color difference.
In the “Limits” box, we have three possibilities:
“Contiguous”: Photoshop will look for adjacent pixels.
“Discontiguous”: this is the opposite.
“Find Edges”: Photoshop will try to stay within the edges.

Tip: If you wish to change a dark color (eg red) to a lighter color (eg yellow) then first change the box “Mode” in the options bar to “Luminosity” and color with yellow. This changes the brightness of the circle.

Then change the “Mode” back to Color and color over with yellow again.
