Lesson 75: Change Image (2)

75/85 Lessons

Image Deformation (scew)

To distort an image, we first select all the layers we want to deform.
So, in this example, I select all layers that I moved.
To select these layers, click on all these layers with the Shift key pressed.
Click “Edit” – “Free Transform” … in the menu bar.
When we click and drag one of the blocks in the corners, we can watch the whole resizing.
When we click and drag with one of the edges, the timepiece can become wider or narrower.
This we had already seen in the previous lesson.

When you hold down the Ctrl key as you drag one of the corners, the corners of the clock distort independently.
When you hold down the Ctrl key and the Shift key as you drag, you limit the change to the shaft that you are dragging.
When you hold down the Ctrl + the Alt keys while you drag, the opposite corner moves, symmetrical with the dragged corner.
When you hold down Ctrl + Shift + Alt keys while you drag, your image perspective changes.

Image Warp (Warp)

You cannot use “warp” function on the background layer, or with multiple layers selected.
If you want to “Warp” multiple layers all together, you must first merge these layers.
To merge layers into a single layer, choose “Layer” – “Layer Merge” in the menu bar.
Now, the “Warp” feature.
To open the Warp function, click “Edit” – “Transform” – “Warp” in the menu bar.

In the options bar of the warp function, we have a box with a dropdown menu.
When we click on it, a dropdown menu appears with preset “Warps” from which we can choose.
For making adjustments to the preset “Warps”, look in the boxes “Bend”, V, and H.
If you choose “Custom”, then you can distort the image the way you want by clicking and dragging it. You can make adjustments with the levers.
You do not see these levers when you choose a preset “Warp”.
What you can do is, first apply a preset warp, eg “Arc”, and only then choose “Custom”. Then you have the levers.

Another tip: when you’ve chosen a preset “Warp” and you place the cursor in one of the “Bend”, H or V boxes, you can click on the arrow pointing up or Down on your keyboard, while holding the Shift key pressed, to increase or decrease the value of that box. So we will see it “Live”, so to speak, where we’re going.
