Lesson 73: Overview Blending modes (4)

73/85 Lessons

Difference / Difference

Apart from this, I will have the Vivid Light mode with a fill of 20% for the further development of my photo set.

Our next group is the comparison modes.
The first of these is Difference.
In this example I select the layer Michelangelo.
The Difference mode actually unites the layer with the underlying layers.
What actually happens is, at any place where Michelangelo layer is white and the underlying layer is also white, this will display the color black. In every place where the layer is black and the underlying layers too, nothing happens. Where there are bright colors, black color is displayed.

Exclusion / Exclusion

This mode is similar to that of the Difference mode.
The contrast is only less. White becomes black. Black has no effect. Colors in Michelangelo layer and the similar colors in the underlying layers become gray.

For the next group of modes, we make an extra layer, with a gradient fill from blue to completely transparent.
Try these four modes, but for yourself.
For the new gradient layer I choose the Hue mode.
For Michelangelo and the Luminosity layer, I chose a value of 70% “Fill”.

Finally I add some text to our image with a “blur” filter.
By selecting the “text” tool in the Tool Box.
Type your text.
With the text layer selected, press Ctrl + J on your keyboard to copy the text layer.
Drag the copied layer below the original text layer.
Give the copied layer a more appropriate name, eg Blur, because I’m applying a “Blur” filter.
With the Blur layer selected, choose “Filter” – “Blur” – “Motion Blur” from the menu bar.
Photoshop will show you a warning, stating that it will to have rasterize the layer.
Click OK.
In the “Motion Blur” dialog box that appears, I give the valuesof 90 ° for the “Angle” and 30 pixels for the “Distance”.
And click OK.
