Lesson 48: Quick Mask (2)

48/85 Lessons

Copy and Paste Quick Mask

Now that we have completely finished Quick Mask, we also want to do something with it. We will provide a different background.
Open a second picture, in this case, it is a good picture of a landscape.

The first thing to do, is to convert it to a Quick Mask selection.
Just click on the Quick Mask button at the bottom of the toolbox or click the “Q“key on your keyboard.

Now we copy our background picture into the photo with the selection.
First select the entire background image.
A quick way is clicking the key Ctrl + Z on your keyboard..
Then click on the Ctrl + C buttons on the keyboard to copy the background to the clipboard.
Then select the picture-selection (that is the one with the gloves).
And choose “Edit” – “Paste Into” from the menu bar. (shortcut for this is Shift + Ctrl + V)

That does not look bad, but this is not really what I want for this picture, I want it as the background.

How do we do it?
Very simple, if you know how.
Click on Shift + Ctrl + Alt + V on your keyboard.
At last:

Looks good, if I can say so myself.

Another Tip.

When you’re making a selection in “Quick Mask” (which is only possible with the Brush tool), it can sometimes be difficult to select a dot, eg between two fingers (1).
First switch to selection mode by clicking on the Q button on the keyboard, select the “Polygonal Lasso” Tool, click the “Add to selection” option at the top of the menu and select the hard to reach area (2).
And then switch back over to the Quick Mask mode (Q-key) (3).
