50/85 Lessons

Insert Point Text

We open our image that we want to add text. Chances are that a pop-up window appears with the message that text layers must be updated for Vector Based output. This is because Photoshop may still have text engine update.
If so, then click the Update button.

Let me first explain what point text is.
“Point type” is a horizontal or vertical line of text that begins at the point where you click a picture. Enter point text when you just want to add a few words to your image.
To add point text, we click the “Text” tool in the Toolbox.
You can choose from 4 different text tools, but the first, the “Horizontal Type Tool”, in fact, the rest of them work the same way.
If you wish to have “Guides” (Guides), choose “View” – “Guides” in the menu bar.
If this command is not available, first click “View” – “Rulers” in the menu bar and click and drag the guides from the top or right edge, down or right.

In the first box, choose the font we want to use from the dropdown menu.
Click on the blue downward pointing arrow to the right of the box.
In the second box, we choose the style of the font.
In the third box, the font size. The size is measured in points (pt).
In the fourth box, you choose either “None”, “Sharp”, “Crisp”, “Strong”, or “Smooth”.
You make your choice for alignment – left, right or center align.
And you choose the color you will use.
All these settings can be changed afterwards.

Save Settings

If you wish to save your settings for later use, click the downward pointing arrow next to the “T” on the right of the Options bar.

Click the icon “Create new tool preset”.
Enter a name for your settings and click OK.
Your setting is added to the list of options.
If you want to use it later, you only enter the list and select your setting.

OK, all settings are entered.
Click the image where you want to enter text. To view this text later, move with the arrows on your keyboard or by dragging.
In the “Character” palette, all the settings of your text are available.
If this is not visible, choose “Window” – “Character” in the menu bar.

Text editing and rotating

When text is entered, this automatically creats a new layer.
If you want to edit text only with the options from the Options bar, then it is enough to select the layer above. You do not select the text.
If you want to enlarge, reduce or rotate text with the “Free Transform” tool, check the “Show
Transform Controls” box in the options bar, click and drag with the blocks at the edges of the text area.

To change text, highlight the text with the text tool and double-click the text.
If you wish that the text automatically moves to the guides, you should have the “Snap to Guides” option checked. You do this by clicking on “View” – “Snap to” … – “Guides” to tick in the menu bar.
If you want to change the color of the text to a color that already appears in the image, click the “eyedropper” tool in the toolbox, click the color you want and click Alt + Backspace on your keyboard.
