“Hue / Saturation” (Hue / Saturation)

We click “Image” – “Adjustments” in the menu bar and choose “Hue / Saturation”.
This opens the dialog “Hue / Saturation”:

By dragging the “Hue” and “Saturation” sliders, we can change the colors of our photos.
But then, it changes all the colors in our picture:

Now you see Mr. Dell looks like an undertaker.
Photoshop can do better.
Mr. Dell, Michael for the friends, wants a new shirt but he does not know what color he wants.
So he tries a number of colors in Photoshop and then he can send his wife to the store.
To change only the shirt color, first we open “Hue / Saturation” dialog box.

In the “Edit” box at the top of the dialog, we choose anything other than “Master”.
I have opted for “Blue”, but that does not matter, as long as it is not “Master”, you’re good.
Then you go with the mouse pointer (it changes to a color picker icon) onto the color you want to change.
In my case it was his blue shirt.

At the bottom of the dialog, you see two color bars and between them a darker gray bar with two blocks on the left and right.
Now, all colors on the darker gray bar change when we change the slider of “Hue and Saturation” sliders.
All colors that lie between the two blocks are not changed.
I hope you can still follow.

For the darker gray bar, we can enlarge or reduce the range by clicking and dragging the edges. Or you can also move by dragging the bar.
Same goes for the two blocks next to the darker gray bar, we can drag those and thereby expand the color range.

Click OK when you’re happy with your settings.
Oh yeah, Oh yeah, if you want to add a second color, hold the Shift key on your keyboard pressed.

Now we want to see how he will look with a red shirt.
We do the same thing precisely, but we drag the Hue bar to the other side.
We make the red shirt so red that his head even gets an orange color.
No problem, we slide the block between the two color bars at the bottom left.
This will exclude more colors to change, including those of his face.

You need some practice with all those sliders, because you will need a different setting for each picture.

Awesome!
